Safestay York Micklegate

I've stayed before an I would again. The curtained beds are great for added privacy and rare in hostels generally. The only thing I think could be improved was that there was no wall mirror in the room, my bed had no plug sockets but one on the other side of the room had an incredible 8! The heavy iron bathroom door squeeked and the handle came of. Staff were however helpful, and check in was easy and fast. A fabulous building in a great location in the heart of York. Very handy for Fibbers live music venue which is just around the corner.

Lovely staff but there a few facilities. Each room has an en suite which is a great addition but for a 12 person room, the likelihood of it being used is high. The communal bathroom is therefore the only real option and this room boasts only one shower. Over my four night stay, I found the communal bathroom without toilet paper a number of times, and when it was there, it was balanced precariously on top of the holder rather than within it. The rooms are comfortable, clean and serviced each day which was nice. Very, very cold. My 12 person room had only a small space heater to warm the large space.

Everything in this hostel is good. Unless roommate because she want to turn off the light whole day like turn off the light on 6.30 pm. while everyone want the light for preparing stuff and luggage and doing something. I thinks hostel should do something with such people like move her to other room.

Great location, nice room, all in all a very good hotel. Parking was fun.

The beds are comfy but do make quite a lot of noise when moving around so that need to be sorted out. I was in room 1 and the condition of the bathroom was absolutely disgusting I mean I saw 2 pair of boxers on the floor don't know how long it was there for, hair in the wash basin and it was just filthy plus the bins seemed like it wasn't empty for some time which was quit shocking because the least they can do is clean it. I do however have to say the staff are very friendly and helpful and they will try and accommodate you if think the bed isn't suitable. The location is perfect I mean it takes 10 minutes to the train station and there is a bus stop on baker lane which if take left from the entrance, walk down the road and turn left. Here you will find numerous bus routes such as number 7 park and ride designer outlet as well as many other bus routes. I am not saying I won't stay here again because this review is based on my second trip and my first trip was actually last week so I would be lieing if i said I didn't enjoy my stay. However in my honest opinion this isn't suitable for a long stay. For the price you pay is more than worth it and I will go as far as saying there isn't anything else for this price that you might like. So for 2-3 it's perfect like I would say don't even doubt your booking and book instantly but 5 plus nights I would say other places might be better. I would recommend this but the points I mentioned in terms of cleanliness needs to be considered.

Would definitely stay again was great all round very clean we went as a family of 14 for a christmas weekend and they staysafe was a great location

My first time in a hostel so was a bit doubtfull, but found it safe and friendly good location for city centre

We loved the quirky decor and furniture . We had a good night's sleep and were pleased we could leave our luggage there after we had checked out .

Fantastic 18th century mansion converted to hostel, easy walking distance to all of the walled city of York. Rooms are cozy and nicely appointed; hostel has a pleasant pub and airy breakfast room on site. Wonderful place to stay.

Good location, feels safe, and nice small dorm rooms (4 people) with en suite bathroom/shower per room.
