Great room, comfortable bed and wonderful breakfast! I loved the soft boiled eggs, perfectly cooked and present with a hand-knitted cap. The staff was friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast was amazing, very attentive breakfast service. Other than the church bells the hotel very quiet and clean. Very well kept. Great location. General manager very accommodative, flew all night she allowed an early check-in put us in room away from the bells. Shower was great. Although didn't have a restaurant for dinner they had a sister hotel not far away with great food. Hecht gave us drink voucher for free drink to encourage us to go there. It was worth it. Good parking nearby. Very nice people wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.

As others have said, the church bells are loud and ring often--every 15 minutes, in fact. I even counted about 130 rings at 6:30 a.m. While this is no fault of the hotel, if you are a light sleeper you may want to choose a hotel farther from the church.

Location of this hotel to the Bernina Express/Glacier Express train station is super convenient. Hotel is located on edge of old town and rooms were clean and quiet, even though you face the streets in some rooms. Check-in/Check-out was convenient and breakfast that is included is one of the best we enjoyed on our 16 days in Switzerland

We stayed here 3 nights and loved the room which had its own huge top level patio/balcony (room 460). Beds were comfortable with a very nice size new TV. Bathroom was large and updated and the breakfast had a daily good variety of items with fresh eggs to order available in the shell. Location very close to public parking which is a bit annoying to have to feed a meter each day from 8 am to 8 pm. The rooms do not have their own fridge but they do have a community mini bar where you can take cold drinks including beer for 4 CH on the honor system. Staff were extremely helpful and got us buckets of ice several times per day as they do not have an ice machine available directly to guests. The only real negative was that their really is no air conditioning, certainly the guest can change. As it was in the 80's during our stay, the room was hot and they do not have any fans in the room or available for use. I realize they probably don't need air conditioning often, but it would have made a big difference in the comfort for our trip. Overall loved the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hecht Hotel in Appenzell. The rooms were huge by European standards, and the bathroom was incredibly large with both a bathtub and separate shower. Everything seemed brand new--the furnishings and window treatments were spotless. The included breakfasts were excellent and the staff very helpful. We asked for ice each night and it was brought to our room. We stayed 3 nights and had a fantastic time exploring the area. If you stay at least 3 nights, you get an Appenzell Card good for free train travel in the region (buses, too) and some free rides on mountain cable cars and an alpine slide. This saved us quite a bit of money--basically paid for one night's stay. There was also internet included for no extra charge, and it was fast and reliable. We would totally recommend this hotel to anyone. One previous reviewer had an issue with the church bells ringing across the street, but we didn't hear them at all. We do sleep with our windows closed, and use a white noise app on our phone, but we truly didn't hear the bells. We also had a room in the back of the hotel--if you had one directly across from the church (front of hotel), you may hear them more. You can always request a room in the back if you think it might bother you. There is no A/C, so if you're there in the summer, you may want to leave your windows open at night. Also, we were told the bells don't ring after 9 pm and we never heard them before 8 am, when we were eating breakfast.

Beautiful room in central location. Wonderful breakfast. Would stay there again.
