Purbeck House Hotel

We stayed in Louisa Lodge. Room was very comfortable. Only a short walk down the road to enjoy a meal at the Red Lion All in all a great stay

Would stay here again, though facilities and furniture are dated. No wi-fi!

Atmospheric old building, welcoming and friendly staff, characterful grounds.

I was there for the Blues Festival, which is a busy time for the town in October. The location is ideal, with plenty of resident parking. The building is unique, giving a nice atmosphere. The rooms are perfectly adequate, considering the age of the building, as they cannot match the standards of a modern purpose-built hotel. It is reasonably good value. The hotel is very clean and is pretty quiet. I found that the service was very good and friendly. Evening meals are not available, but takeaways can be eaten in the hotel, and local restaurants are recommended.

To spent our last night in Swanage we transferred from our B&B up to the Purbeck. Ideal location for walkers and location to town and beach . We liked having a lounge and bar for the evening . Bed was comfortable and bathroom standard. Loved looking around the old architecture and period interior detail , a very pleasant stay.

Nice clean, comfortable stay. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Only criticism was breakfast started at 0730 which is maybe why I was unable to book it online and had to do so at the hotel, but as I was working in the area it was a rush getting away in the morning! I would book again if in the area.

The hotel is situated in a prime location and the hotel itself is a stunning building. Having said that it is very dated, bathroom is very basic and unfortunately we had mould in the shower and the shower kept losing power, also the shelf in the bathroom was very loose. The furniture downstairs looks very tired and really needs updating. The staff are very accommodating, friendly and chatty. The hotel also has a no dog policy so unfortunately we won’t return again

The room was spacious and clean and all the staff that we encountered were courteous and helpful. The breakfast was okay, but not exceptional. Sadly the large grounds of the hotel were not as well maintained as we remember from a previous visit. We would consider staying again as the hotel was conveniently situated and had adequate parking.

Enjoyed our stay here for 3 nights. Great location for shops, beach & station, all a short walk away. Did not have breakfast so can't comment. Had a room on 2nd floor with views of the sea. Would stay again.

Our daughter was married here on September 13th We received the best of attention, the staff, especially Emilie and Alex were so personable and friendly they were a delight to deal with. Everything went smoothly and without a hitch,and the day was enjoyed by all. Guests commented on the beauty of the hotel and the gardens. The hotel itself is a former convent and it is showing it's age in terms of building structure, which is to be expected and in terms of decor, which some would say is dated, I would say comfortable. I understand that renovations are taking place but because of the age and listing of this beautiful building are not going to be done overnight, likewise the decor, which is spotlessly clean and comfortable but maybe not fashionable enough for some. It is overall a very large, old and very quirky building that I would have loved to have been able to explore from top to bottom. Now someone in the last but one review left a fairly scathing review. Having not eaten breakfast here, I cannot comment. Over the style and decor, well some people like it, some people are happier with the style of decor at the more corporate /budget /functional end of the hotel choices. About the "overgrown grounds" I completely dispute that, the grounds were absolutely beautiful and in no way overgrown or neglected, everyone was amazed by the beauty of the gardens and that was only 12 days ago, so maybe the reviewer mistook a heavily rained on garden ( it had rained loads in the week following) as overgrown /neglected or maybe they were a little peeved at not getting a discount on the back of their complaints One again, thank you to all the staff at Purbeck House for a memorable day.
