We had a wonderful stay at The Centara Collection, Machchafushi Island Resort & Spa Maldives, and there is a lot this hotel genuinely does right. From the start, the services, activities, restaurants, and food were all excellent. The villa design and layout were perfect... beautiful, comfortable, and very well thought out. The beach surrounding the island is stunning, with clear water and plenty of marine life, which made swimming and snorkeling a real highlight. Farouk, who welcomed us on arrival, was professional, warm, and consistently helpful throughout our stay. Dining was outstanding, especially at the Thai and Italian restaurants—both the food and the service were flawless. The spa experience was also exceptional; the treatments were truly something special and very relaxing. The hotel was always clean, the staff were efficient, and the app made everything much easier by reducing the need to call for services every time we needed something

Unfortunately, two things significantly affected what would have otherwise been a near-perfect stay. Seaplane Transfer Experience: This was our first time using a seaplane in the Maldives, and it was a major disappointment. While the transfer is handled by an external provider, better coordination and clearer communication from the hotel are really needed. The price of the seaplane is shockingly high, especially considering the experience. Upon arrival, we waited almost three hours at a very basic lounge with nothing offered except standard seating and water—not what you expect after a long flight from Dubai. The luggage policy was also frustrating. Even though international flights allow 30 kg or more, the seaplane limits luggage to 20 kg and charges extra for every additional item, including tote bags. It felt unreasonable and poorly explained. What made things worse was the lack of clarity around timing. You don’t know the exact seaplane schedule in advance, which creates unnecessary stress. On departure, we were told we’d only know the seaplane time the night before. Despite a hotel checkout time of 12:00 pm and an international flight at 3:15 pm, we were instructed to check out at 9:15 am for a supposed 10:15 am seaplane. On the day of departure, the seaplane was delayed and didn’t arrive until 11:00 am. This meant we were forced out of the villa early and left waiting, when we could have stayed comfortably in the room, relaxed, and freshened up. Unfortunately, this experience really overshadowed an otherwise amazing stay. New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner: We have a tradition of spending New Year’s Eve in the Maldives and experiencing different celebrations each year. Sadly, this was the weakest NYE gala dinner we’ve attended. While the food and service were excellent, the overall atmosphere and entertainment were disappointing.
