"Would not recommend"

4.0

Placed between St Ives and Penzance, it is reasonably well located. Other than the pub there are no local amenities. The accommodation is a converted barn at the back of the pub. It has 2 rooms that sit over one another. The pub seems nice but we didn't eat or drink there. The staff were friendly but we only saw them on check in and check out. We stayed 2 nights and the room was not cleaned. As the property is to the rear of the pub, the accommodation is surrounded by general rubbish from the pub, i.e. empty barrels, broken furniture, rubbish bins etc. The view from the garden over the hills is spectacular. We stayed in the upper accommodation, which is huge and in keeping with the traditional barn feel. There is ample furniture inside the room and has its own shower, toilet and sink (no bath). The room, being a big converted barn was very cold (Easter Weekend) and we had to rely on a small floor standing electric heater on full blast to warm the space. The walls and beams were dusty and full of cobwebs. The TV was broken as were some of the lights. The bathroom was very cold and difficult to keep warm. The drains smelled of sewerage and the bathroom was infested with insects. Only 2 small bath towels provided and poor quality. The quality of the overall conversion from barn to accommodation is very poor and done cheaply. I believe the pub will unfairly profit from the seasonal holiday demand but your money is better spent elsewhere.

"Country Pub"

I was sick and appreciated the homely cottage to rest in for three days instead of a hotel room. My husband was able to go sightseeing and call back and see if I was ok. The owners met requests for food that I felt I could eat. The surrounding areas were beautiful.

"Nothing too much trouble"

10.0

Very friendly, we were even welcomed by the locals drinking in the bar as we walked through. Great atmosphere to the pub and room. Very clean and very large bedrooms in separate building to the pub so very quiet, although wind noise the first night as it was very blustery weather. This did not detract from the stay though. Just the two rooms, ground and first floor. Ample parking and open country views and only ten minutes to the centre of St Ives. We would certainly go back if visiting this area again and would not bother to look for anything else.

"Great views and even better publicans"

Great location just outside of St Ives with views of the heathlands. Helen and Steve were excellent hosts, very welcoming. Well-decorated spacious room. My only complaint is too-soft beds, but that’s a matter of taste, really.

A great country Inn with really nice people running it. The traditional English breakfast was excellent-the best I've had in England. The room had a funky shower that we could not figure out how to use.

"Good for the Scilly Islands ferry"

8.0

Staff friendly and helpful, they showed us to our room which was a converted farm building with character. Unfortunately we had to be up too early in the morning to have the cooked breakfast but a continental one was offered and was perfectly adequate including croissants, cheese and ham. The location was rural, overlooking beautiful countryside. A good place to stay if visiting St Ives.
