The staff, the room and the breakfast.

Location could have been more central.

- The room is spacious - breakfasts and coffee are delicious - There have private sauna in the hotel, good enough for families and groups

- if cleaning service can be made by request on guests would be better than once in 3 days stay

Well located inn. Comfortable beds and linens. Breakfast was well executed and well portioned.

The property, though well appointed, did not convey a japanese onsen resort experience. Rather, it conveyed a mix of east meets mostly west resort experience. Housekeeping level and service was an issue - cleanliness and lack of attention to detail does not measure up to the price point of competing Japanese owner operators of other establishments in the area. Room ergonomics not well conceived and a lack of sufficient garment hanging hooks and hanging space for clothing was an issue. Some amenties such as the gym and laundry seemed to be shared with off duty working staff.

suspect sign of racial discrimination at the cafe in lobby. Since the cafe was short-staffed during breakfast and no water was served on my table, my simple attempt to get some water unexpectedly turned into a lesson in English etiquette：A cafe staff with bushy beard, in his infinite wisdom, deemed it necessary to "correct" my barbaric attempt at communication, enlightening me on the "proper" way to articulate my thirst. The truth is，without bothering busy staff there,all I tried was to get water by myself. Since the bushy beard stood in the way to kitchen, I explained “I need to get some water”which sounds like a huge offense to him. He frown upon “ Would! You! Please! Give! Me some water! Use Please! Not I need to get some water blah blah…..” At first I thought he was nothing but a racist guest. When I recognized he was one of the staff here, such attitude would be more than rudeness as one in service business. True hospitality is about respecting and understanding the unique backgrounds of each guest, not about schooling them to conform to an arbitrary standard of communication. I earnestly hope Kawamotoya takes this feedback to heart, embracing a more welcoming approach towards guests from diversed culture

Great hospitality, great onsen nearby, and a good private onsen inhouse. Great breakfast, too. We did come back for the second year.

I thought the service, thought not to Japanese standards, was decent from a North American frame of reference. The front desk team was helpful and kind. The room was basic, but very clean.

The overall hotel experience had some remnants of Japanese authenticity, but was overwhelmingly international and more akin to something you would find in North America or Australia. This was disappointing for us, but perhaps what the majority of Nozawa visitors are looking for?

Very pleasant. Location is in the heart of the city The lift up the hill in the morning made the access to the skiing simple and the walk down the hill in the evening was through the village and all the shops. Dangerous to the pocket. Wonderful cafe in house providing great breakfasts The Blat was extraordinary, had it every day. The family loved all the cakes, unfortunately this meant multiple deserts per night.
