Hotel Waterloo & Backpackers

Check in was easy, room was as expected, staff were all easy to deal with. Is in a handy location when arriving by train, bus or boat.

I like a firm bed, but I wasn't at home, the price was right so no real complaints. There was a problem with the hot/cold water in my room and the shared bathroom, I found somewhere to shower though. Also, on the positive side, I told reception about the issue when I checked out and they gave me a few hours luggage storage which was mint!

Staff very friendly and helpful, kitchen well supplied and function, beds / sheets very comfy (especially like the light duvets). Showers warm, pressure great.

General furnishings battered (walls, carpet,dressers). The design of the sink (a bowl) meant it was very hard to get the kettle under it, so we had to make tea a quarter jug at a time :( Some sort of scaf / bracing outside window on 3, so no view.

The location, across from the train & by the ferries, is admirable. The rest is not. A very down-at-heel place, with a ragged-assed, abandoned feel. It clearly isn't abandoned though, and we could stay the night in a convenient location. It just didn't feel very good.

Location was great. Situated above a pub that made good meals. Also close to train station and ferry. It was old and not flash, but represented good value for money.

The rooms were quite noisy and you could easily hear sound from neighbouring rooms. The shower water was extremely hot and could have easily caused serious scalds.
