Shelford Lodge

It reminded me very much of hospital 'on call' accomodation - mostly functional, so room was comfy, had its own shower room and toilet. Its priced as Basic - so as long as that's what you expect then that's perfectly fine.

I hadn't spotted the airline style ' on line check in' but helpful staff meant it wasn't a problem.

Bed was comfortable

Very small rooms. Breakfast room smelt and was swarming with flies. The breakfast was a couple of packet bread left out. Got offered cold beans and yoghurt from the fridge to help myself one morning. Cereals are kept in dirty looking containers. 1 morning out of 3 there was a spread laid out with no covering and the beans needed to be microwaved by yourself. No hand towels In the room TV was miniature so much you had to stand up to read the guide.

Bedroom had a small kitchenette in it which was a surprise, and it was a large room, with clean sheets and a towel provided. Private bathroom across the hallway (just has a sign on door to say which room has sole use of it, so you hope everyone is respectful)

Booking.com were not able to help gain assistance from the property when I had to sadly make a complaint about breakfast and the state of the dining area. There was no cooked breakfast, and this was the sole reason I chose to book the hotel due to it's proximity to work and breakfast offering to save me a long drive each day. There was bread on the side with jams available, and cereals in boxes, but on opening the fridge, which milk is for guest use? No labels, no indication of what to touch/not to touch, mould on the shelf, a carton of milk completely out of date, half eaten pastry in the door.......it was really off putting so i rushed something down quickly, hoped I wouldn't get ill and rushed so i could leave. Medication very openly left in bags on entering reception which was very disturbing and worrying, but Booking.com couldn't seem to do much about it

*I requested in my booking a downfloor bedroom, given a room upstairs *Upon arrival, no one at reception, self check in with our names viewable with key number so we knew which key was ours. As a lone woman, I felt this was a Security Risk, & doesn’t take privacy seriously *Private shower room was across a hallway, as a woman was highly risky and felt vulnerable *No soap supplied with sink, no paper towels or towel to dry hands *Filthy old shower mat * Room not the cleanest * The Supplied tv I couldn’t get to work, so checked remote, batteries had been removed *Felt completely unsafe and vunerable as a lone female, due to keeping the main entrance front door open and accessible to anyone at all times through the night * Was kept awake most of the night by someone constantly going up and down the stairs very heavy footed & then stamping on the stairs ..was too scared to open my bedroom door to go to my ‘private’ shower room to use the toilet. Imo I beleive the hotel is housing some people with mental health issues.

former care home rooms are clean Host is very attentive and will always help fresh bedding and towls tc and fridge in room little dated but excellent value for money and close to city centre

Good selection of dishes. Cereals a bit dry.

It seems other guests had all breakfasted before I arrived.
