Librije's Hotel

When booking our package at the hotel we were excited as to what we would find with an old converted prison! We were greeted by a fantastic staff and taken to our room (the old wardens quarters). The room was simple but luxurious with the largest bed I have ever seen and a bath to match! Unfortunately I needed to see a doctor during our visit and we were really well looked after by the butler and were duly taken to and from the surgery visit. I really could not have asked for more. We looked around the hotel and whilst beautifully renovated, a lot of the original parts of the old prison were left intact. This included one of the original cells left as it would have been in the past. We did dine at the wonderful restaurant, but I ended up with the food being served to us in our room We intend to visit again in the near future and take advantage of the whole experience.

Since we were going to the restaurant, we decided to try the hotel. We were impressed by the professionalism of our hosts, the check-in went very smoothly. The hotel is an old women jail, entirely refurbished; the work which was done is impressive, however the comfort cannot be compared to those brand new 5 stars hotels which were built recently. Our room was very good, rather spacious, but one could notice some limitations due to the building age. The bathroom is opened and the toilets are separated but the door is a glass window which does not ensure total privacy... The equipment was however in general very good. We also had the breakfast, all in the style of the restaurant, kind of "nouvelle cuisine" freshly prepared for the occasion.

The rooms in this hotel are decorated by Therese Boer. That stands for a romantic top quality. And every detail is well thought of. For example a nice naughty pleasure box in the bedrooms. Beds are that good (Auping) that we ordered one at home too. And the food: Needless to say it's the best of the Netherlands.
