Following a stay at this place, I have been convinced to never, ever even THINK of staying at a Hampton Inn ever again. I get the impression that Hilton maximized profits by buying terribly-designed products at cheap prices to maximize profit at the expense of their customers.
On the positive side, the rooms were very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The worst part of the experience was the loud, illogical Amana heaters in the rooms, They had to get a real bargain on these pieces of crap, as nobody who wanted return customers would ever buy these.
The temperature outside was in the forties, so the heater needed to be on. I found my room, moved in my belongings, and immediately went to an event, returning later in the evening to sleep. When the heat turned on, it loudly (with great air flow) turned on the Air Conditioner compressor. After 10 minutes, when the room was too cold to tolerate, I turned the system off, turned the heat up to 80 degrees in an attempt to rapidly reheat the now air-conditioned room, and then turned the heat down to 69 degrees and went back to bed.
When it got below 69 degrees, the thermostat turned the noisy system back on, and I awoke to a freezing room with the air conditioner blasting. The system was not on "OFF" or "COLD", it was set to "HEAT", so why would the AC EVER turn on? I went through the night turning the heat up to 80 degrees, getting the room hot, and then turning the system to "OFF", to prevent the air conditioner from blasting me again.
When the room became too cold, I would get up and repeat the process again and again, getting very poor, frequently-interrupted sleep. I called the desk, but they had no other available rooms and said that maintenance staff would address the problem in the morning. The maintenance person was nice and he stated that he knew that one of the fans in this room had problems, but that they had used up or cannibalized all of the spare units and parts that they had fixing other defective units. After opening the unit and resetting the system several times, it kept blowing air conditioning, even though it was set to "HEAT". He told me that he could not fix this, and he told the front desk that I needed another room.
The place was a construction zone being remodeled. To my amazement, he stated that replacing these defective piece-of-crap heating units was NOT part of the planned improvements !
I packed up my things, left a tip for the cleaning staff (who do good work) and moved to a new room. I could not get into the room as the door battery was dead, but the staff was able to replace that. The TV remote needed new batteries, and the front desk replaced those. I had a planned event that night, and needed to catch up on the sleep that I missed the following night.
I cancelled the next days planned visits on my second day to get some sleep instead. I woke up from my nap in a cold room with the air conditioner blasting in THAT room, even though the system was set to "HEAT". After repeating the previously night's ritual a few times, I decided to just put on thermal underwear and hide under the comforters during the AC blast, as I needed to sleep. It was then that I discovered that after 10-20 minutes of blasting AC (despite being set to "HEAT"), the unit would eventually give heat (much quieter than the noisy AC compressor). If I tolerated 10 or more minutes of inappropriate freezing AC, the system would turn off the AC and eventually initiate heat, even though it was cold outside. (WTF ?)
The mini-fridge, coffee-maker and microwave were as cheap as you would ever see in a reputable hotel chain room. The toilet was so low, it is probably perfect for small children. The toilet seat was so close to the water that males have an increased chance of a urinary tract infection from having their distal urethra dangle into toilet water. (I'm actually not that well-endowed, I pity those who are.)
The breakfast was as generic as I ever saw in an establishment that allegedly served "meat". Instead of bacon or breakfast sausages, they had these slices of totally tasteless kielbasa-like product.
The staff was very nice and the rooms were very clean, but I'll never stay at another Hampton Inn again unless I have no other choice. With the noisy Amana AC units, I won't come in the summer, and I won't spend so much money for the opportunity to get uncomfortable, broken sleep.
This is the first time in the last half-century that I have needed to write this type of review. When I tried to add this review to the Hampton Inn website attached to this location, it would not allow mw to POST it, it would only allow me to CANCEL my review. Gee, what a coincidence ! Before that moment I could not understand where all of the 5-Star reviews came from from people who allegedly stayed at the same place.
