The Bell

We were visiting relations in Solihull and like to stay outside the city. The bell was in a great location for us and had a large carpark in the rear. Staff where very friendly and accommodating. We had a evening meal in the Pub which was excellent and the breakfast in the morning was one of the best I have had staying at various hotels/Pubs in the UK.

Unfortunately it was a hot Saturday night when we arrived. Room 6 we could not open the window. So requested a staff member to assist but she could not open the window. So with no ventilation the room was hot and stuffy. I requested a fan which the staff member gave me. We tried to log into the Internet but found that was down until 15th June. Not a problem as I used a Hot Spot from my Mobile.

The room was comfortable and quiet. We had an excellent dinner but did not have breakfast as there were no vegan options available for some of our party.

The bathroom was a bit chilly.

The location was good, in a pretty little village. The pub itself was pleasant, modern and welcoming. The staff were friendly.

Our room had a door communicating with the bedroom next door - to be fair we had requested a room next to our daughter, who subsequently did not come with us so the room was occupied by another couple. With only a door between the two rooms, the noise travelled in such a way that we could hear the conversation next door in every detail. This was not conducive to a good night's sleep. Combined with the tortuous stairs to get to the room with luggage in the first place and the mouldy shower that a quick spray of bleach would have easily cleaned, we were not impressed with the accommodation. In addition, the breakfast options were very poor, with the a cooked breakfast, or toast, and a basic choice of cereals. Most hotels offer pastries and fruit salad and yoghurt as a standard. We felt that £14.95 for toast and a mini-packet of Kellogg's corn flakes was rather exorbitant. The evening meal, however, was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
