"Shocking"

1.0

Didn’t like any of it, dirty, scruffy and the staff were appalling!!

We were accused of calling the staff liars just because we challenged the fact that they forgot our order having waited an hour for our wine to be served. We were then threatened by Si, barman, saying it would end badly for us!! Absolute joke of a place, run by amateurs, food shocking, facilities horrible and staff a disgrace. Never once did we get an apology for their shocking service just threatening behaviour. We won’t be going back!!

10.0

Very welcoming hospitable staff, excellent food in the bar/restaurant, a very good selection of real ales. The staff work as a friendly team and it shows. Kelly explained about the parking and offered us a disk to use, however, we already had one. Our room was at the front and it was quiet overnight. Book a table in the restaurant as it gets very busy.

The fact that we stayed at other places locally before we found this.

"The (Market) Tavern Alnwick, Central, Comfortable, Convenient."

9.0

I stayed at The Tavern for 4 nights from Tuesday 14th April 2026 until Saturday 18th April. I had a very pleasant room (2) on the first floor which looked out onto Fenkle Street, just west of the Market Square. The room had two large single beds and a bathroom with a shower. There were two bedside cabinets and a desk/table with a cupboard. Also, there was enough hanging space for me, which is something I like. Although the weather was cold while I was there there is a big radiator which, when it is on, warms up the room well. The bathroom is compact, but there is everything there that you need and the shower works properly. It is not a large room, but I enjoyed the view onto Fenkle Street. The Flat screen TV had a built-in DVD player which worked well for me. The kitchen has been refurbished since I was last there, but I did not get a chance to dine there. But it has a very good reputation for food, amongst the taxi drivers! I recommend Dirty Bottles on Narrowgate and Copperfields on Market street for breakfast, and Harry's Bar on Narrowgate for beer and atmosphere. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, one young, strong man even carrying my bag upstairs for me. Would I stay there again? Yes, I look forward to visiting about the same time next year.

Nothing.

"Excellent"

We had everything we needed, room was comfortable and we slept well. The staff were welcoming, helpful, polite and cheerful. We only stayed one night and decided to eat in, there was plenty of choice on the menu. We both really enjoyed our meals - the local Craster pate starter was delicious. My main was the shepherd's pie - which is the best I've ever had. Would definitely stay/ eat there again.

"Overall lovely stay in Alnwick, show at the Playhouse Theatre was excellent would stay here again"

8.0

Good central location, fantastic food and pleasant, helpful staff. Nice touch leaving a small continental breakfast in the room

Curtains too small to fit the windows, large gaps letting light in, safety lighting in doorway area making bedroom very light although I appreciate this is probably a safety measure that was necessary.
