Rooms comfortable, though no en suite. Food good but expensive. 25 min walk from town centre

Great stay. It was a little pricey but had a great cafe restaurant on site. Nice location and good views. Rooms were comfy. We didn't have en suite but easy access to loos and shower and never any wait. Really good stay!

We expected hostel standards, but it was better then we thought. Nice bar, rooms are clean. It is possible to blackout them during midnight sun (not 100% but enough). Hotel is obout 30 minutes by foot from city center.

Very nice place to stay for a few days in Longyearbyen. Very nice breakfast. Highly recommended.

Friendly, helpful and easy going staff who made you feel welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed and all the guests meet up in the evening to share stories from their adventures in the snow. As a woman travelling on my own, I felt really comfortable there. I looked at some of the other accommodation in Longyearbyen, for me, Coal Miners is the best.

Fantastic reception staff! Good dinner food too (amazing burger and corn stew). Spacious and clean individual bathrooms, with several on each floor. It's a bit of a hike from the city centre but the tradeoff is that it can be a good (easier) opportunity to meet interesting people from around the world. Also it's much easier to get a clear view of the northern lights here than in the city, and there's a neat history to the buildings. The only real inconvenience is that most of the bars and restaurants and museums are near or in the city centre, so if you don't want to walk, or you're having a late night out (Coal Miners' bar/grill closes at midnight), the cost of taxis can quickly add up (budget for 110NOK each way). Otherwise a very enjoyable place!

The hotel is in Nybyen, just outside of Longyearbyen but easily within reach of Longyearbyen centre, surrounded by 3 mountains and with less light pollution. I chose it in case there was a better chance of seeing the northern lights but it was cloudy the whole time so I can't confirm this. The room was basic and with a shared bathroom but clean and with friendly staff. It's served in the same way as all other hotels by the airport bus and the tour group pickups. Whilst I was in the restaurant we were all treated to a free palaeontology lecture! If my Norwegian was better I could have understood it but the slides were interesting. All in all a good stay and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Good value for the money as long as you do not mind sharing a bathroom.The lobby area is a good addition and the restaurant in the lobby area had good food for a good price. The rooms are clean and the price includes breakfast. It is a bit far from the center of the town but if you are fit you can walk it or take a cab (which is readily available).

Very friendly and helpful staff. The food in the bar is good and the drinks are reasonably priced (by Norwegian standards! ). The room was basic but clean. The blackout blind wasn't great and would benefit from being a tighter fit to the wall, but the bathroom facilities were good and having a kitchen gives you the option to save some money by self catering. I really enjoyed my stay and certainly stay again.

Comfortable 3 nights stay. Tidy and clean but 20 minutes walk away from centre.
