Dunama Ocean View Hotel

Nice view and close to the ocean

I was really looking forward to a 2 day relaxing escapade and decided to book at the Dunama Hotel in Playa Flamingo. Booking a 2 night stay starting on a Sunday would surely assure me the peace and quiet I was hoping for from an ocean view room – especially during the low season period. But… boy was I wrong. When I checked into the hotel around 3 pm on Sunday they provide me with the key to room 405. When checking in, the informed me that the restaurant would be closed to the public that day because it would holding a private event which would be done around 9 pm. I had no issue would that as I figured I would simply spend some time relaxing in my room. What I was not told is that room 405 is right under the hotels restaurant where the private was held. Furthermore, what they called a private event was in fact a full swing party for about 100 persons with music, dancing, jumping and singing – yes on was I expected to be a quiet relaxing night. When I later commented about the noise – right over my room - to a staff member he said it would be done by 10 pm. Which at 9:50 pm did not appear to be happening. At which point I went back to the reception where I was told that in fact it would probably end around midnight. Expressing my disbelief, a staff member from the reception – offered showed me an alternate room which appeared to be in maintenance and did not even have. The room was not ready, and the sound was just as bad from there, so I declined. As we headed back to the reception, I informed the staff member that the best option would be to re-imburse my stay and I could find a more peaceful hotel elsewhere. At some point during the conversation, he went away and after waiting for some time, I was told by the security guard that the receptionist had finished his shift and left for the night. Incapable on enduring the noise of the party, I decided to leave. Since, no hotel management was available to assist and process my re-imbursement, I left to find somewhere else to stay hoping I can follow up with the manager the next day. During the course of the following day, Monday, I called the hotel 6 times and was told every time that the manager was not there and asked that he answer my calls which it seemed was not going to happen so soon as staff members were saying they had no idea where he was and when he would come to the hotel or return my call. It was pretty much the same scenario on Tuesday and as I could not get to speak with a person of authority and see how I can follow up to get my re-imbursement. Upon insisting I was finally connected to the Operation Manager who confirmed he had no idea if and when I could follow up with the manager. Nonetheless he told me he would try to contact him and get back to me about a re-imbursement. That never happened neither. The response never came. After several other calls, always intercepted by the receptionist and never able to review the situation with a person of authority, I was told – I would not get any money back nor any compensation because that is the hotel policy. After asking why I cannot speak with the manager, the receptionist named Sofia told me to stop calling and simply hung up on me. That being said, if your are looking for a nice relaxing time with great customer service and good management, think again before checking into the Dunama Hotel and Casino in Playa Flamingo Costa Rica.

The hotel could be improved, the rooms and areas need a better maintenance for the overall facility, staff is friendly and willing to help if you need something

Hotel was fair. Clean, air-conditioned rooms. Staff was extremely friendly. Restaurant was good. Disappointing that pool was dirty and hot tub was off. Be careful because it is an open air hotel so crabs and iguanas roam freely. Best part was the staff.

All great rooms were little dirty after they cleaned shower head didn’t work tv was horrible o pictures need to be updated

My wife and I visited Dunama Hotel and Casino for our destination wedding. The hotel has all the charm with no frills. The hotel has THE BEST VIEW of any of the hotels in the area. We ventured into the casino but we’re too tired to gamble. The staff was amazing, from Pacheco and Willie that always had our drinks and coffee ready, to Laura and Eithel the managers that took on any request with a smile and desire to please. Their energy was contagious to the rest of the hotel staff. They were all upbeat and in fantastic mood everyday. The food they prepared was top notch delicious. The rooms were basic, but very clean and spacious. The bed was on the firmer side, but for me that was great. The days leading up to the wedding the staff helped set up the gazebo for a small family wedding as well as the reception hall. It was an incredible success. My beautiful bride was incredibly happy with the way everything turned out. Our departure was bittersweet as some of the staff members touch our hearts with their sincere desire to please and make our stay extra special. We will definitely be returning. The view is priceless. The people are amazing.

Booked for 2 nights because it wa to have a beach. There was no beach totally isolated we stayed one night and left
