The Franklin

Spent three nights at the Franklin as a birthday treat for my partner. We had previously stopped in the deluxe room a couple of years ago, but were in room two this time. As per the previous time we stopped, the room was perfect for our needs. The room was spotless, the bed comfy and the shower, nice and powerful. Plenty of tea and coffee, with fresh milk in the fridge which was replenished daily. The breakfast in the morning was amazing and a challenge to finish, which completely set us up for the day. Plenty of tea and toast to complement it. Dan was a fantastic host, even leaving a parking permit outside for us to use, after turning up early. Dan could not do enough for us and also left some beers in the fridge, for when we got back late one evening. Would definitely recommend and will stay at the Franklin, next time we visit Harrogate!

Dan gives you a warm welcome and is willing help with anything you need. Parking is available right outside (permit supplied by the owner) and the Deluxe Suite is clean, light and airy. Breakfast hot and plentiful. Only a five minute walk to the town centre.

Well, 3.5 stars. There is no doubt that Dan is a welcoming and informative host. He cooks a good breakfast too. The hotel is close to and convenient to the town centre, which is good - though I can’t agree with other reviews saying the street is quiet: it wasn’t when I was there thanks to building work and very early morning refuse collection but perhaps on other days it is fine. Noise disturbance from the adjoining property was more of an issue, walls are thin. For me, though, the Franklin has some other downsides. I stayed in the ‘deluxe’ room and wouldn’t again. For sure, the room is quite large and faces the street. But perhaps this is why the room was so very cold; the radiator wasn’t up to the job. A hot water bottle is available, but I don’t want to be relying on that to be warm. There is a seating area promoted on the room description but the seats are two hard and really uncomfortable dining chairs. Ten minutes on one of them was more than enough. Room furnishing is an eclectic mix, including a massive oriental decorative fan and a massive wardrobe adorned with plastic shrubbery which all seemed a bit odd. What really drags down my opinion was the shower: it drains very, very slowly which is fine if only for the fact that the water is such a woeful dribble from the shower head the drain can just about cope. Stay here by all means but I would opt for one of the side rooms, which at least have an armchair and maybe better water pressure.

This place was clean and comfortable for our short stay. It’s central to all the touristy places. Bonus was that free parking is available just outside on the street. Staff are so friendly and helpful.

We regularly attend conferences in Harrogate and generally stay in B&B accommodation. The Franklin was our best experience! With just 5 bedrooms there is a personal and intimate vibe: exceptional breakfasts prepared by the owners; very comfortable bedding, no traffic noise, and free parking on the doorstep. We’ve just booked for February 2027!

A lovely little place with great hosts. Daniel and partner were so very accomodating, allowing me to do a mid-day zoom meeting in the dining room, and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Fantastic breakfast and very convenient for a conference I was attending at the Harrogate Centre. Beds very comfy and mini fridge a bonus.
