StarCity Hotel Alor Setar

Attended a wedding at this hotel with my family (wife and 6-month old child) and stayed for one night. Despite being relatively old, the hotel was well managed and maintained unlike other older hotels that I've stayed at. Room (Deluxe King): The room was well spaced, well aired, and most importantly, clean. While its physical appearance looked understandably tired due to its age, it certainly did not feel so. I've experienced newer hotels with worse cleanliness, so I really appreciate their effort in ensuring their rooms and premises were well kept. Bed, pillows and linen were comfortable - baby had no problems sleeping whatsoever. No issues with noise at night. The bathroom was noticeably more worn than the room itself; however, it was clean and stocked with ample amenities. No complaints. Location: Very centrally located and within proximity of everything and anything you need. Huge Aman Central shopping mall quite literally a stone's throw away, with the Menara Alor Setar just a short walk away. The hotel provides limited basement parking; however, there is ample parking within the hotel premises and just outside. Staff: The reception staff were pleasant, competent and fast in their work. Well done. Conclusion: Our stay at StarCity was positive and I can say that it is a comfortable place even for families traveling with babies/children. We enjoyed ourselves and did not encounter any problems whatsoever. Good value for money and I will certainly consider a repeat stay.

The hotel is located within a 3-minute walk distance from Aman Central, a shopping mall, where you're able to get all your daily necessities i.e. food and entertainment, conveniently. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staffs are courteous as well. Overall it is an enjoyable stay.

Just stayed overnight on a weekend in Alor Setar. Location is good...near new shopping mall if you need choice of meals or to get stuff urgently. On down side...there was quite a bit of traffic going into the mall on Saturday afternoon. Pretty basic hotel. Didn't notice gym or pool for recreation...for business not family vacation. Car park available but limited around the hotel. Did not notice any basement car park. Room rate include breakfast...again it's just basic fare of tea/coffee/1 juice, eggs station, porridge, noodles, rice and only white bread (i.e. no other bread; e.g. danish, croissant, sourdough, donuts, etc.). Limited fruits and only plain yoghurt. Stayed in the spacious Deluxe Room with King sized bed. Able to connect to wifi with tablet but not laptop...not resolved until checkout. One of the towel was a bit worn but others seems okay...not bad enough to be bothered to get replacement. Bathroom floor was very slippery even with bare foot. Do not step on floor towel...it's lethal. Easy to get Grab from the hotel...cheaper than taxi called by the reception. Taxis in Alor Setar generally charge double what Grab costs...they don't use meter.

A very conveniently located hotel in the heart of the city. Love it.

Beware! This hotel is situated at a location which the availability of vast variety of food is arguably the highest in the entire Alor Setar, if not Kedah! Aman Central, a modern shopping mall, is also within sight from outside this hotel. Overeating is a natural consequence staying in this area. Most touristic attractions are within walking distance, including the landmark Menara Alor Setar (Alor Setar Tower). In fact, do not follow the GPS when going to Menara Alor Setar - just walk into Aman Central from the west side and come out from the east side within one minute - Menara Alor Setar will be at the other side of the road (Lebuhraya Darul Aman). If there is anything I have to comment negatively, there is no personal safe in the room.

The hotel is located right at the center of the city. A big modern shopping mall with various fast food chain and cinema is just within walking distance. Tourist who fancy dining at the tower also very near. Basically I have no complaint except WiFi strength is not consistent at room 416. Shower pressure is good and room is clean. If there is anything to improve, I wish they could install a 42” LCD TV instead of 32”. TV signal is weak. Aircon is strong, so make sure you bring sweater or off it during sleep. The rest is acceptable and I would come back again.

Good location and friendly staff

I'm having problem connecting to hotel wifi. The signal is weak from my room. I end up using my cel data which is fine anyway. The room is nice, bed is comfy, everything meets my expectation. Check in process is fast. No safety deposit asked. Staff was friendly.

Stayed here for couple times. Resonable price in the city center.
