The Alpine Lodge

I owned a vacation home near Gore Mountain for years, and now as a guest of the area decided to try Alpine Lodge, which I had passed by a hundred times. Overall I found the stay a disappointment , for several reasons: no front desk of any kind nor person to help if needed; walls so thin that I thought I had stumbled into an all-night snoring competition; confusing temperature control with no instructions; ice buildup near my room entrance that nearly put me on my back; a shortage of parking; and a check out process as complicated as a a check-in. Overall, it seemed like a hotel that had opened months before it ready.

The Alpine lodge is a FANTASTIC place to stay. We loved the fireplace, size of the room, the room itself. If I had only one complaint it would be the TV difficult to manage. And NO local Channels. thanks

The room was dirty. The sheets were stained. The kitchen was hacked together. The cabinets barely fit together. All of the lights only have one extremely bright setting. I was told I was getting a two bedroom suite. It was one huge room with a small closet space with twin beds. The bathroom taps were reversed for hot and cold water. The room had clearly never been mopped as the floor felt like it was covered in dust and mud. The pipes were extremely loud. The people in the rooms above us woke us up at 5 am every day by stomping around, bouncing balls and playing loud music. This wasn't their fault, this building was made cheaply and lacked insulation. We could hear every regular conversation they had, they were not yelling. The common area was full of dirty dishes. The outside was covered in so much ice you could barely walk. Nobody put salt or sand down. Halfway through our stay someone put a caution we floor sign outside. I can see why this place has availability on a ski weekend in the middle of a busy winter.

It was very cozy and they had plenty of supplies for the rooms!

The bed was comfortable, and the linens were clean uncomfortable. The towels were wonderfully soft. Check-in was very easy.

It took a long time for this room to heat up. Understandably, there was a very cold weather spell, but apparently the system cannot heat up quickly. It would have been nice if the room has been heated up before we got there since we gave notice of arriving within 20 to 30 minutes. Once the room heated up it was very nice. The bathroom is a bit dated although adequate. There is very little shelf space for you to put any items around the sink.

There was no heat. They promised me a full refund. I never got it. Booking.con as I will call them also was complicit in not refunding my money.

Proximity and overall look and feel

I'm giving the Alpine Lodge a mixed review. To encapsulate it, I would call it Form over function, or Aesthetics over comfort. On the positive side of the ledger, the location is great, right on Main St. in charming North Creek NY. The place is pleasing to the eye, tastefully decorated in an Alpine/ski theme. The staff, (who I never saw,) was very responsive to texts for things like towels, maid service etc. However, the room was very uncomfortable. There were no flat surfaces (like a small table) to put things on, except two tiny end tables and a small dresser. There was also no place to sit, except for an uncomfortable wood rocking chair. Nice to look at but painful to sit in! Some tiny, but irritating things: • There was no closet. • There were no rugs of any kind, meaning a very grit covered wooden floor. • There was no microwave. • No shampoo or conditioner of any kind, yet seven makeup remover pads! Most people go there to ski, myself, I don't put on mascara to ski. • The water is SCALDING hot. Too hot, one could easily get burned. To sum it up, the place is beautiful, but uncomfortable. We were there to ski, but the room should be more than just a bed— when we're not on the mountain, it would be nice to relax in our room.
