It is classified as Hostel, but actually it is more a Boutique Hotel, it has two beautiful courtyards, sunny with lots of plants. The bedrooms are 5 stars, have new tasteful furniture, big flatscreen tv, great beds and feather duvets, beautiful views, a bathtub in the bedroom, and great details in the spotless bathroom. There are a couple things that could have been better, it needed a heater in the bedroom, it was freezing at night (so the beautiful bathtub is almost useless, you would be freezing as soon as you get out) and the poor quality of the toilet paper. The location is perfect, 5 minute walk in safe nice streets to get to the main plaza, and around the corner of Monasterio de Santa Catalina, one of the major attractions of the city.
We stayed here for one day on either side of our trip to the Colca Canyon. Provided great access to the historic center and allowed us to enjoy the city on foot.
I am so tempted to just give it one star because the rooms are very dirty. The blankets had a few spots of fainted yellow stains, so I don't know is it because they can't get the stains out or they just haven't washed the blanket since years ago. The provided shampoo and conditioner are in very disgusting condition. We bought our own shampoo and conditioner. That was how doubtful we were when we saw the supplied materials. We only resorted to using their towels because me and my friend didn't bring one and didn't know where to buy a new one. The ONLY perk about this hotel is its convenient location and the colonial style decor. Everything else, it's very dirty. Oh, in addition, when we check out, the staff at the desk did not know how to use the credit card machine. We needed to teach him how to use it, just so we could pay. During our stay, we asked the front desk for a reputable company for local tours at Colca Canyon. Well, the recommended company turned out to be a rip-off. The "complimentary" breakfast only involves guava juice and two pieces of bread. For the price we paid, we sincerely felt that we could have gone to a nicer place for breakfast or at least a little more food. End of the day, don't take their recommendations at the front desk. Look on your own.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Very close to the center of Arequipa. For the price this hotel was very good.
