Hotel Nikolas

The hotel was a bit hard to find and off the beaten path. We originally thought we could bus around. Not possible from here. Suggest to rent a car or quad at the port and use for the entire trip. There are a few local restaurants nearby, but the hotel is away from the action in Fira. Breakfast was average as the breakfast room was too small and the staff couldn't keep up with demand from guests. Selection was poor compared to other Greek hotels of similar quality. The hotel has a small pool. Our room was huge, with a separate lounge with a day bed. It was a treat to be able to move around more freely.

I was a little dubious about our stay because I made the mistake of reading previous reviews, however the whole of our party couldn't fault this lovely hotel. Every single member of staff was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were lovely and clean, and were cleaned every day. The locals have dogs that do sometimes bark at night but not loud enough to keep us awake. Breakfast was your typical continental style, we found there to be a good choice each day and had a couple of hot options which we weren't expecting. If you are really hungry there are a couple of bakeries nearby, the one on the main road to Fira is open 24 hours and does some cracking food. The supermarket is almost next door to this for anything else. Location wise, we found it to be perfect for us, its a couple of minutes walk from the main road and another couple from the main road to Fira (where the bus stops are) so you don't get the noise. You can walk to Fira easily from the hotel, however as I am 6 months pregnant I struggled with the heat so we asked the hotel to arrange taxis for us, which they did numerous times. It's about a 5-10 minute drive and cost around €15 each way for 6 of us. We then just called the hotel when we were ready to be picked up and they sent someone out. We would definitely stay here again, it was wonderful. As a side note: If you are planning on eating in Katerados, steer well clear from Skaramangas. Absolutely awful food and service!

This was a nice hotel, 3 Star rating and was that. Continental breakfast was good, and the ladies who worked in the breakfast room were lovely and very helpful. The reception staff were also very helpful. Our room was spacious with a small balcony. The only problem we had was with the air conditioning, which went off a few times. Maybe we had it on too long ! it was an old one. The swimming pool was small but adequate. Would definitely recommend this hotel, and would stay there again if we went back.

Pros: Very clean hotel away from the city and the crowds.Good for families with children. Cons: Not recommended for couples and romantic getaways.

Very helpful reception, gave us ideas about the island's sightseeing, recommended a really good and reasonably priced taverna nearby. Slow but functioning WiFi (but common problem on many islands). Basic but well sufficient breakfast. Convenient Parking space.

I have stayed at this hotel before and would stay there again. Out of the hustle & bustle of Fira, Hotel Nikolas is situated close to a supermarket & taverns. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Great pool and sunbaking opportunities. Only 10minute walk to Fira. We had a few quirks in our room ie door not closing properly, fridge wasn't the coldest, but accommodation in Greece is always a little quirky! Bus stop is 2minutes walk so you can travel all around the island!

Friendly arrival from the receptionist and staff were considerate and visible only when needed. Otherwise, generally good all round.

Wonderful staff who made our stay enjoyable! The hotel is a five minute drive from the caldera and Carterados has some nice tavernas. Nice small swimming pool!
