We've just returned from a week at this hotel. I feel that I have to write this review as I wouldn't like anyone to make the same mistake as we did. We booked here with Easyjet as we felt it had a good balance of things for adults and children. Myself, my husband and my 3 sons aged 17, 13 and 5.
When we first arrived, I was underwhelmed by the appearance because it looked a bit like a 80's block of social housing flats, but once we got in, the lobby was more modern so I ignored my initial feelings and proceeded to check in. Check in was pretty seamless and the young man that checked us in was polite and professional.
We were shown to our room by a young man who brought our luggage up. I tipped him for this and then he left us to it. I had a look around the room and was once again underwhelmed...Then I went into the bathroom 💔 it was grotesque and dysfunctional. First of all, it stinks of raw sewage, the shower gives you intermittent hot water and the door on the shower doesn't close properly which means that the floor ends up soaked (thankfully they gave is 4 towels which were only fit ro clean the floor). The water flies straight out of the sink when you switch the tap on and in our shower cubicle there was a brown lump stuck to the wall which I am 100000% sure was excrement. Due to me having ocd, I travelled with a massive bottle of dettol and a pack of vinyl gloves, so I was able to scrub this myself so that it was safe for me and my family to use.
By the 2nd night, we realised that the plug sockets in our half of the room were not working when we tried to charge our phones. I informed reception and someone came up within half an hour to look into this. The technician told us that it was because our plug were both faulty, they were not faulty as they worked fine in the other half of our room. He then proceeded to lift up a poor wall covering to reveal exposed wires and fiddled with them to attempt to make it work. He said he would be back in 10 minutes to try something else. We're now back in the UK and he never came back so we had to charge 4 phones, a tablet and a kindle in 2 sockets in our children's half of the adjoining room using 2 plugs. Very difficult when the power goes off while you're not in the room. We also woke up to no power at all throughout the whole room on 2 separate mornings.
The Food...
I've never known anything like it. It was the worst experience of my life. Every single one of us got ill, whether that was sickness, diarrhea or both, we ALL got ill. The food is trash, not authentic Turkish food, not quality produce and one of the worst aspects of this holiday. To be clear, we are not a fussy family, we love to try new, different foods and embrace all cultures. There was nothing nice about any of the food and anything that you do try will 99% of the time have been sat on by at least 20 flies. There is not a single bug zapper in sight and you will compete with flies at each meal time. This is to be expected outside, but inside it is completely unacceptable.
The dining area itself is slack and dilapidated. Hygiene is POOR, although you see staff constantly wiping the tables, please pay attention to them and you will see that they NEVER have a spray bottle in their hands and they use NO detergent or cleaning products on those cloths at all. They're essentially just wiping dirt from one table to another. We decided to sit in the outside dining area. My son kept on saying that the food he was eating seemed wet. I thought he meant the melon so didn't pay it much mind. Until he was eating bread and said the same thing. When I looked, I noticed his plate was wet, I looked to see where this had come from and realised that dirty water from the roof had been leaking onto the food that my son was eating. He was violently sick for 48 hours after this and I had to take him to see the pharmacist who gave us medication to help replace the fluids that he had lost due to this. The whole roof is fool of holes and spots of tape where they have clearly tried to patch it up because of this. I also noticed on the way out that the area was laden with buckets catching water from these leaky bits. I also recorded this water leaking on to my sons food so it cannot be denied.
As many other reviews have stated, there are cats throughout the dining area and despite several signs that clearly state NOT to feed them, we witnessed other guests feeding them under the tables. I am a dog owner and my personal preference is not to have animals of any kind around me at dinner time, but I believe this is down to personal preference so cannot hold it against the hotel.
After that terrible experience, I remembered that some of the literature the young man gave to us when we checked in said that there was an a la carte restaurant on site for an additional fee. I thought it would be safer to go there to avoid anymore issues. I hadn't noticed a restaurant anywhere within the grounds, so went to ask at reception where I could find it. The man at reception looked at me like I was an idiot and said "There is no a la carte restaurant, we don't have one for a long time now" I had given up by this point. We took a taxi up the road to Palm Restaurant for the loveliest food that we had the whole time. There we ate for the rest of our stay.
Every Turkish person that we encountered whether they were members of staff or just local people, were absolutely BEAUTIFUL, they were so welcoming, polite and gracious and apart from the weather, they were the best thing about the holiday. They did their country proud and I would go back to Turkey 5000 times a year if I could.
Unfortunately the other guests at the hotel were not all Turkish. For context, I am a black woman of Jamaican heritage and my husband is Irish, we have 3 mixed race children. This is important for families like mine to note because it is not pleasant at all. We literally had people coming and standing and staring at us with mouths open wide because of the colour of our skin, not in a friendly way, they looked at us with utter disdain and repulsion and this was ALL DAY, EVEEY SINGLE DAY. We were the only black/mixed race family until the 6th day of our holiday and it was absolutely horrendous for us to experience this. I do not know what nationality these people were, but please note this was not an isolated incident, this was not one person or one family, this was happening with different people every single day. This is NOT the hotels fault AT ALL, but others need to be aware as it's such an unpleasant experience.
All in all, although Turkey is fantastic, this hotel is poor and I wouldn't ever return. I'm currently going back and forth with
Easyjet over this because I can't understand why they have a place like this on their site. It makes no sense.
