Barcaldine Castle

The location was convenient for us, we were hiking nearby mountains in the Highlands and visiting Oban. The breakfasts were a highlight, beautiful, delicious, authentic, and with several local ingredients. Multiple options for dietary restrictions. The castle has a lot of character, from the family portraits and taxidermy of the great hall to the skeleton keys for the rooms to the secret passages.

I struggle to even find one part of our stay that wasn’t to our liking. The property was easy to find with our rental car. We loved that the castle was well-preserved but modernized. We loved the staff, they were a highlight. They made the castle feel like a home. The great hall was beautiful and authentic feeling, and the Campbell family history was fascinating, right down to Black Duncan’s legacy and the bottleneck dungeon below.

The atmosphere of the place is amazing and the breakfast was really tasty. The staff was incredible and made us feel very welcome. From the little tour of the castle on arrival all the way to the unprompted offer to take a picture of us in front of the castle when we checked out. We had dinner at a nearby family restaurant followed by a lovely evening at the bar in the castle. We stayed in the Breadalbane room and the view out the window was out of this world (see pictures).

There was nothing to dislike.

It was an authentic Castle yet the beds were very comfortable and modern. We loved the Great Hall and having whiskey and wine there in the evenings after a day of exploring. The managers on staff were lovely and great hosts.

We would’ve loved a proper fire in the fireplace!

Both Patrick and Ceceilia were very welcoming on our arrival with an interesting tour of the Castle and general kindness. The room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed, including a welcoming pack tea,coffee, and biscuits. The breakfast was quality and thoroughly enjoyable It was our 40th anniversary and we couldn't have enjoyed spending it anywhere else

Die kleine Burg liegt abseits von der Hauptstraße in einer wunderschönen Umgebung. Sie ist aber recht leicht zu finden. Cecilia und Patrick, die Burg-Manager, sind sehr liebenswerte und aufmerksame Gastgeber. Daher fühlt man sich in dieser Burg wie zu Hause. Die Zimmer, der Saal und das Parlor sind im viktorianischen Stil gehalten und sehr gemütlich. Das Frühstück wird frisch zubereitet und lässt keine Wünsche offen. Allerdings muss man sich für das Abendessen anderweitig orientieren. Dazu können die Gastgeber gute Tipps geben. Es ist empfehlenswert, wegen der schmalen, mittelalterlichen Wendeltreppe die Koffer im Auto zu lassen und eine kleine Übernachtungstasche auf das Zimmer zu nehmen.

Our stay , while only one night, was excellent. From the moment we arrived we were treated like family. A very warm a deer greeting by Patrick.

The grounds were small relative to other castles we’ve been to. However, from what we saw they were well kept.
