Clouds Mapleton

Way cheaper than Maleny, and feels like it. May have been awesome when new, in the 70s...

Just a tad overpriced and hard to find. Overall, worth it.

We were not impressed. Rather old and not very clean...

The first thing I noticed was a very bad smell at reception (which fronted the operator's home). The only thing I could liken it to is the dodgiest teenage flat - very "unwashed humans and not-done housework" type of smell. With some trepidation we headed down to find out unit, which was right beside a fully set up marquee and common room. We'd paid a premium rate (compared to other accommodation in the area) because this place advertised a fireplace. We were looking forward to the cosiness of a fire. I headed back to reception to check that there wasn't going to be a party in the marquee while were were there (there wasn't) and ask about firewood. Apparently no wood was provided although apparently we were welcome to buy some down the road. I said I was not prepared to pay for my own wood. The operator informed me that it was supposed to say on the website that firewood was only provided in season (she varied the season from 1 June to 1 May during the conversation), and that I should understand that the provision of a fireplace did not indicate the provision of wood. I told her the provision of a television led me to believe power would be provided, and I think it's reaonsable to expect an advertised fireplace would come with wood to use. The lily pond outside our room was a stagnant water hole, which I expect had we stayed (we left) would have become a mosquito party in the evening. A quick check back on Wotif made it clear nothing was as advertised

Facilities: Shabby, Run-down; Value: Rip-off; Service: Inferior; Cleanliness: Smelly, Grubby; Would not return and recommend others to stay anywhere but Tanglewood Gardens.

Value: Affordable; Service: Basic, Sufficient; Cleanliness: Nice, Floors Sticky; It's a little further out of Montville than we expected, it's actually in Flaxton. Nice little area though.
