"La Dominica suite"

6.0

My wife and I spent 7 nights in the first floor Dominica suite. The room is huge, with a king- size bed, a large sitting area with full size couch, table with two chairs, small refrigerator and many interesting decorative items. There is also another bedroom with a double bed, desk and chair. The bathroom was adequate, with an outdated toilet and separate tub/shower enclosure reached by a three step entrance(the bath was not working during our stay, and the shower fixture needs updating). The room was quiet and very comfortable but needs a few minor maintenance corrections to receive a higher rating. The hotel staff could not be more friendly and helpful, and the breakfast available on the roof terrace is very good. We are both 60+ and had no problems, but anyone with physical difficulties would have a hard time. We would stay here again.

"Charming Rooms with Perfect Central Location"

10.0

This is a very small boutique hotel with only about 6 rooms. When we arrived with our toddler in tow, they were able to switch rooms to get us in the one with a toddler crib/bed. We were so appreciative of how accommodating they were able to be. The staff was so friendly as we came and went from the hotel and were able to give us great advice about where to go or what to see nearby. We were very close walking distance to the Zocalo and Santo Domingo. Basically all of the things you want to see in the center of town are walking distance from here. One of the staff let me peek into a couple of the other rooms before they were occupied to show me some of the decor in the other rooms, including several cross stitches framed and done by the owner. This is really more of a bed and breakfast than a traditional hotel as breakfast is served daily on the rooftop veranda (which was steps from our particular room). It was about 700 pesos a person for breakfast, which is minimal for the quality and quantity of the food we were served. The two women who clean the hotel also fix the breakfast before doing the room cleanings. The breakfast consisted of fresh squeezed orange juice, Oaxacan hot chocolate or coffee, toast and jam, fresh fruit salad, and your choice of breakfast dishes like chilaquiles and mole. The breakfast here was the best of everywhere we ate that after getting it a couple of other places we stuck back with here. I'm not sure if you can eat breakfast here if you don't stay here, so you might as well just stay here!

"Casa Cid de Leon"

10.0

Casa Cid de Leon is a fantastic, boutique hotel perfectly located in Centro Oaxaca. It's a block away from the Zacalo, the plaza mayor of the city. The hotel is small, six bedrooms restored in part to a classical period when Spain governed Mexico. It's absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. It's within easy walking distance to several museums, art galleries and restaurants. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about the service and the personnel. My wife and I were there for a week and definitely plan to return for a longer stay. I've traveled to Mexico for many years since the early 1980s but had never been to Oaxaca. I was absolutely delighted with the city and will return. We had the opportunity to meet a few artists...the city if filled with talented artists. The galleries are outstanding but you'll also find that small restaurants or nearby bookstores feature works by local artists. (We aren't talking folk-art. There's plenty of that to be had. We're talking modernists!!! But if you want folk art, shop at the women's collective (Mujeres Artsanas de las Regionales de Oaxaca) not too far from the hotel.) Restaurants: I recommend the Cathedral, Casa Antiqua and La Jicara. But, there are many others to choose from. Good bookstore the Libreria a block away from the Casa Cid & an excellent coffee shop adjacent to it. Across from Casa is a small bakery with lots of pan dulce. Nearby must see museums include Museo de Arte Contemporandeo, Exconvento Santo Domingo, Museo Rufino Tamayo. Take in a few churches including the Cathedral, Inglesia de Sto Domingo. Monte Alban, of course, is a must see but don't miss Mitla. Take a tour to see international weavers like Nelson Perez. A great tour is En Via that supports micro financing of women's businesses with small loans. For example, we throughly enjoyed meeting three local women who were weavers. Their micro loan allowed them to maintain their traditions and their family. One of the best travel experiences I've ever had. Oaxaca is just magical. I don't know how else to describe it. The people are wonderful.

"Great location !"

10.0

What a beautiful place to stay. We had a great suite on the first floor. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and a good price. Our room had a king size bed and a second room with a double bed. There was a sitting area. The artwork and antiques were so quaint.

"Great base in Oaxaca"

10.0

We were very pleased with the location of the hotel, just a little over a block from Oaxaca's zocalo/alameda. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and friendly and informative. Also, most of the staff we encountered either spoke pretty good English or was able to deal with my badly fractured Spanish. The rooftop terrace was great for breakfast, tho we only ate there once. Our suite included two bedrooms decorated in antiques and was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend and, if travel plans ever take me through Oaxaca again, this place will be high on my list of places to possibly stay.
