"Better accommodations and for cheaper can be had in remote corners of sub-saharan africa."

Room was tiny, dirty, poorly lit. Bathroom door didn't lock, didn't even open all the way because of the bed. If you're going to book this as a last resort, sleep in your car instead.

It was available on a holiday weekend

It was very smelly and the furniture, door knobs, handles, table tops showed they had not been wiped for a long time. Nice pictures shown on the Internet, BUT- but my wife spent 30 min cleaning the place. First pic and 2nd are the same table after cleaning a few inches. The manager does not employ a maid, he and an old guy were servicing the rooms. They mainly just leave the doors open to air out and strip the beds of sheets, and empty the trash. Tried to run the air conditioner to air out the room but did not turn on. Oddly it did turn on 3 hours later. Pic of the TV screen shows a TV that is barely seen, mostly snow.

"not as clean or charming as it once was."

4.0

I have stayed at the Great House many times before. In fact, my grandparents stayed there for several weeks while my dad finished building my house in Scam. After they moved up here from Virginia in the late 70s or early 80s. When at its very best, this place can be charming and a great value. But it has fallen from grace recently and doesn't show any signs of returning to its previous charm anytime soon. All of the management seems like reasonably nice enough people. I called them mid-afternoon, the day before yesterday, to confirm that there was a room open for one adult, no pets, one night. And there was, and the price was fair, and the price was quite low-land, actually. I view the command with my name on the bonus that I would be there in an hour or so. Per his request, I handed him my ID card. A little while later, he looked at me and said, oh, you're listed as a DNR. What does that mean? I questioned. He said, there's a note in our system that says, do not rent to you. After giving it serious, serious thought in the day and a half that followed this interaction, all that I can conclude is that one of the many times that I stayed there, my truck broke down in their overflow parking lot, And they contacted me to give me a deadline that I had to remove it before. I never moved the truck before that deadline, but I can't help but wonder if the management at that time was going to order that report. Because I had left the truck there until they had asked me to remove it. Which was slightly over a week past the last night that I spent there. Again, it wasn't in the main parking area. It was in "overflow parking". It was something that I discussed with them before I departed from the room. This is also where they had asked me to park my truck the entire time I was staying there because the truck was on the large and loud side. After I was initially told that I was a DM status, I had tried to get any specific information as to why that could be if there were any information or details that were noted with my name. There was a brief note about a large amount of trash being left in the room. One thing that I will take issue with is if an establishment who has rented a room out to a person for over two months straight, when asked whether they want the room to be spotless or whether they don't mind their people throwing away trash that's left in the room, The command goes on to tell the tenant, such as myself, just don't worry about leaving some trash in the room. As long as it's not anything like an open spill that is going to damage the flooring or anything drastic like that. I will release the issue if management conveys that I don't need to pick up all of my trash, especially when the trash cans are already overflowing. And then they're going to DNR my name with the note that I left trash in the room. Instead of that, why not just be honest with your tenant and tell them that you want them to pick up their own trash before they leave so that they can have a chance to do so and understand your expectation and not have to deal with a problem later on resulting from it. At any rate, this guy did eventually decide to leave a room for one night. As I did point out that I couldn't imagine how a person could leave a room full of trash after staying there for just one night. And I really enjoyed the opportunity to speak with his boss when his boss returns from Texas and try to get this whole thing straightened out. He was quite emphatic that he's going to give me the room for the night, but it can only be for one night, not two, and that he's breaking rules by giving me the room. And I got my room key. The room they assigned me was a very small room with extra pieces of furniture in it that served no purpose other than to get in the way. Specifically, there was a tall shelf with nothing on it that was up against the wall between the table and the bathroom door, and it was positioned in a way that made it impossible to push the chair in underneath the table. I am currently recovering from a severe foot injury. I managed to stub my toe five times in the first couple hours in this room Thanks to the extra unneeded furniture and the mindless layout of things. The fridge was in a way against the wall when I got there in a way that didn't allow the door to freely swing shut. So the fridge door was open when I got there. And the fridge was one of the loudest fridges I've ever found in a motel room. It worked, though. But as I was putting my food into it, I noticed a large patch of black mold on the back wall behind the fridge. Notice another small patch of black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. About that bathroom, there were a couple of squatters in there, and they clearly weren't going to give me the space that I had paid for being able to stay in without being pestered, so I had no choice but to kill the squatters. The larger one was a large, gigantic black slide. And it survived the first four times! When I finally succeeded in murdering the uninvited houseguests, these bright yellow guts came out of the big black fly on all sides. And it made, like, a yellow bullseye with a black fly in the middle of it. I made sure to leave this on display, draped over the edge of the sink basin in the bathroom for the next person to go into the room to have a good look at. About two or three minutes after I got into my room, while I was still getting my items out of my vehicle, I heard somebody in another room start screaming obscenity strings at the top of their lungs. But for better and for worse, the manager just happened to be standing between where I was standing and the door of the room that this voice was in. So the manager also heard it and I believe did something about it.

"I should have slept in my car, and I almost did."

1.0

I liked that I didn't pay much for this room. Whoever, I have paid the same amount for rooms before, and they were clean and well maintained. I absolutely can not say that about this room.

The room was not clean. The bedsheets and pillows were stained with mildew, and there were holes in the sheets. All the towels in the bathroom were stained and looked dirty. The blankets were very dirty. The blankets, towels, sheets and pillows all looked like they had come from the local Goodwill. Because nothing was new or clean, I didn't bother to ask for new dirty things. I had to go to the local Walmart for bedding and towels so I could focus on the class I was in town for. I just didn't have time to go searching for a new place to stay. Also, I didn't want to go back into the office because it smelled like urine and some kind of cleaner like an outhouse that needed to be serviced. The shower had hair, soap scum and dirt in it. The bathroom for sure was not being cleaned. Everything was dirty and dusty. The bathroom mirror had toothpaste spots on it. Dust and cobwebs in the ceiling of the room. Old paint on the curtains and gross plastic stick on sheets all over the windows, even where privacy was not needed. Whoever owns this place has no business being in service for other people when basic cleanliness is clearly not understood.
