Ajisai Onsen Ryokan - Award Winning Private Open Air Onsen

A wonderful ryokan experience in every sense. The room was beautiful, and the private onsen booking system worked smoothly — just a relaxing soak without strangers around. The food was the real highlight: kaiseki dinners and breakfasts featuring wagyu beef that were genuinely memorable. The location is quiet and peaceful, about 15 minutes' walk from Gora Station — far enough to feel secluded, close enough to be practical. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic, high-quality ryokan stay in Hakone.

Great little onsen in Hakone. This is a private onsen so you get the hot spring to yourself. Upon checkin you can book 2 slots for the the evening and 1 slot for the next morning, each slot is around 50 minutes. The rooms were neat and clean , beds were comfortable. I slept on tatami mat and futon and it was very comfortable. We booked the dinner and breakfast which were both wonderful. Very relaxed meal experience.

Location is a bit far from the Gora station, takes around 20 minutes. Would recommend that you bring minimum amount of luggage since this is a bit of a problem. Did not get the Japanese style that we booked which was a little disappointing. The western rooms are a combination of tatami mats area and beds. Expensive but I think all the Ryokans in the area are in a similar range.

The ryokan was incredible and the staff so friendly and welcoming. It was perfect. We were there with our children. Dinner was so tasty and the onsen a wonderful experience.
