JOIVY Beautiful 2 bed flat on the Royal Mile

Location and modern style

The key storage being held 6 minutes walk from the property plus the number on the set of keys was 1/D when the property was 1b. Very confusing on arrival. The round door knobs in the property are very stiff.

Great location. Nice accommodations.

The check in process needs work. Picking up keys at a separate location is inconvenient, given the wrong address initially added even more time, key mislabeled for apartment 1A vs 1B caused additional confusion and calls and time. The reservation or apartment should have instructions for turning on the hot water and for how to use the tub shower.

check in process was poor. instructions for lock box at Joivy were not correct... lock box was not numbered as noted in check in instructions; wrong keys left in lockbox. Joivy office 10 min round trip from apartment which wasn't convenient dragging large suitcases. At no point did check in staff offer to bring correct keys to property kitchen needs additional items to be workable. tongs, grater, serving bowls, instructions for washing machine, heating system etc

The location and two bathrooms

There wasn’t enough glasses (wine, etc). All crockery and cutlery we used needed to be washed before use. There was a coffee machine, but no coffee pods to be able to use it. The freezer was completely frozen up, very difficult to open the drawers to store ice. The en-suite room…the bed was very small for a double, very soft and pigeons were at the window all night cooing and the blind needed to be down constantly to avoid the view of pigeon sh*t. Overnight the window. The toilet wasn’t cleaned very well, I had to clean the previous visitors excrement from the seat and outside of the bowl!! Also, the entrance is down one of the small alley ways, this alley was also used by the local drug users and so we were greeted with used needles each morning!

Die Lage ist sehr gut. Das Appartement war geräumig, sauber und funktionell. Eine von uns gemeldete Verschmutzung des Treppenhauses wurde umgehend beseitigt.

Die Angabe, dass es zwei Zimmer mit französischen Betten gibt lässt nicht erahnen, dass es sich um 2 Betten mit 1,60 und 1,40 mit Breite handelt. Das kleine Bett ist für ein Paar fast unzumutbar. Im dem Luftschacht hinter dem einen Zimmer haben sich Tauben eingenistet. Wegen der Verschmutzung und des verursachten Lärms ist ein Öffnen der Fenster nicht möglich. Der Lärm in den Morgenstunden ist auch bei geschlossenem Fenster unerträglich.

The location is the best attribute of this unit. Located on the Royal Mile and in immediate proximity to everything Edinburgh has to offer the location cannot be beat. There is a pub literally downstairs, multiple restaurants, shops, and sightseeing locations all within easy walking distance. The flat is a short walk from the train station and easily accessible from the airport by tram. The flat was clean and well-appointed and had everything that we needed. Collecting the keys was a bit of a process as it involved a 5-10 minute walk beyond the flat (when arriving by train) and then back again.

The flat is located down a small alley, that upon our arrival, had a large pile of feces (hopefully from a dog) in the center of the alley that remained the entirety of our 3 day stay. Understandably, this is not the hosts fault or within their control, but it was the reality of the situation during our stay so it should be noted. The flat is upstairs and to access the unit you have to carry your luggage up a small winding staircase. This could be difficult for anyone that is mobility limited or older. Making matters worse, during our visit the small staircase was mostly blocked by construction debris, making it quite difficult to carry our luggage up and then down the small spiral staircase. We did not bring these issues to the hosts attention because we believed they were beyond the hosts control, but again worth noting.

Great spot, great flat. Staff went above and beyond to help us with our after hours accidental lock out!

Location. definitely puts you right on the mix of Old Town. comfortable sitting room and room to spread out.

Just be prepared for a bit of night noise due to the location.
