"Booked to attend my mums funeral after recently attending a wake held at the pub. Couldn’t fault it!"

7.0

Lovely and welcoming.

Room a little on the small side but overall it was good value for money and will definitely stay there again.

Nice room and outdoor space for a picnic and a drink from the bar. Nice village and countryside. Continental breakfast was disappointing. Fire alarm at 7am was a surprise!

"Clean, practical ensuite rooms in a lovely pub in a beautiful village just outside Oxford"

10.0

Stanton St John is a beautiful village close to Oxford. The Talkhouse, the only pub in the village, has a great setup with practical rooms on the ground floor off the courtyard, each with their own ensuite bathroom. Very peaceful, flexible, clean, and easy to access from the parking area just across the street. We were able to go into Oxford for a theatrical evening and return home to the peace and quiet of our rooms and then wander round the village in the morning and pick some fruit at Rectory Farm. Very relaxing and pleasant.

"A little disappointed"

5.0

Walking the Oxfordshire way so location was almost perfect for us.

No food available on the evening we stayed. This was not obvious before we booked. Got round this but not ideal and the pub makes a big thing over the food. Breakfast not available until 10 unless you want a continental left outside your door overnight, both not ideal when you have 15 odd miles to walk next day. Staff friendly but didn’t like the fact that when we told them we had eaten in a community run pub a few miles back they were very dismissive saying they had heard bad things. Overall the room was fine but the outside area was scruffy and felt a bit tired.

"Peccato la pulizia della camera!! Per il resto tutto positivo"

8.0

Ottima posizione in zona molto tranquilla.

La camera purtroppo non era pulita e le lenzuola secondo me, non erano state cambiate… abbiamo trovato briciole nel letto.

"Lovely country pub, but small dirty, grubby rooms!"

4.0

The pub itself was very quaint but there was so much wrong with the room and service that I really don't know where to start! The room was very small and musty smelling. It opened on to the beer garden but the window had no net curtains or privacy glass, so the only way to get privacy was to close the main curtains with a 10watt bulb in the ceiling. There was no wardrobe or chest of drawers, just a black wrought iron clothes rail with a knob which was perfectly positioned at eye-level! The worse part was that the whole place felt grubby, grimy and dirty. I've never seen such cheap, thin, degrained bed sheets and the pillows were also lumpy and disgusting. We decided to sleep on top of the bed rather than get inside! I knocked a tin of drink off the bedside table, mopped it up then used a wetted bath mat to clean the floor… the bathmat turned black with grime off the flooring! The bathroom was also musty and the extractor fan had a mesh over it which was full of dead wasps/insects! The towels were an off-white, creamy-grey colour and stained in several places. I wish I had more room here to write everything i wanted to cover. The only positive thing I can say about The Talkhouse is that the staff in the pub were very friendly. In summary, a quaint country pub with dirty, grubby rooms and zero customer service. Obviously, we'd never stay here again.
