The place we stayed was separated building than the hotel. They cleaned it everyday and it was comfortable.

The facility was old. The room was covered with the carpet. The breakfast was poor.

"Feels like a real german 'gasthaus'"

It is a very old building which is in a hood condition. Has simple but clean rooms. You might probably forget that you are in Italy, as this place is so much like german (german speaking stuff, german books, german breakfast etc). Zur Linde is the most economical option if you have to stay in Rio di Pusteria.

"Basic place to stop on the way from inner Italy to Austria or the other way - down"

We stopped at this Gasthof \ Albergo on the way to Garda lake. We arrived after a beautiful whole day drive from Munich through Austrian country roads. The place is very clean and has lots of atmosphere. It also has many many steps and floors so take that into account if you have a lot to carry from car to room. Breakfast was good an plentiful and included in the price. We didn't do any homework for this night's stop so I can't compare to other options either in this same town or nearby ones but there were many other options as well. PS - We stayed there in April 2011 and this review is per friends request.
