Hostel The White Butterfly

Friendly staff (there was an issue with the room but the staff accomodated us in a different room), great location in the city center and close to the beach, fan and fridge in the room

Old building and furniture, expect to be noisy from the street

This place was really awful. The door to the all women's room doesn't lock. My food and a roommates laptop charger were stolen and the staff did not seem to care at all. It was extremely dirty everywhere and you could feel the metal bedframe under you. The fridge was rusted and disgusting. The balcony door in the room does not close properly and there is no sound insulation. There is a nightclub close enough that our room was BUMPING and I could tell what song was playing. This went on late into the night. It was not a good sleep at all. This hostel was only 4 euro less than other hostels I stayed out throughout Portugal and it was the worse by FAR. It is not worth the money at all.

Atmosphere

Location

Cigarette burns in the duvet cover. Exposed wiring. Peeling paint in the bathroom. A TV that looks as if was pinched from a 1960's SiFi arsonist movie. Sticky floor. A secret door we cannot open, but is a possible portal to a serial killers domain. Lamp hanging on wires from a ceiling. A smell that was a combination of disinfectant,  incense & embalming fluid! A toilet roll used as a modern design for a window latch. But there is a steam driven fridge, fan & a rather good shower. What's not to like.

The staff was really helpful and respectful. Location is easily accessible, close to the centre and lotf of bars and restaurants around.

Sketchy looking, cold rooms with old furniture, that's why it feels so unclean. Got blankets but they also felt dirty so it was freezing cold all night. Barely could sleep, either the cold or loud tourists on the streets kept me awake. 100% wouldn't go back.

Great value for money. Nice old place.

It could have been cleaner. But, I guess you get what you pay for.
