Skittles the cat is friendly. The owners have preserved the original victorian charm of the place. Classic San Francisco.The windows open for some fresh sea air. big old clawfoot tub and shower. Be sure and observe the dog, cat, bird and mouse in the wonderful antique elevator. And take the stairs at least once to see all the great old photos. Close to some good restaurants (Bouche and Roxanne's for instance). Two steep blocks uphill to The Masonic. Parking right across the street. We have stayed previously at the Fairmont and Mark Hopkins and we now prefer this place. Real old San Francisco feel.

יש שני מלונות בשם הזהה GOLDEN GATE HOTEL. האחד במספר 775 אותו הזמנתי. הגעתי בערב מאוחר בקבלה לא ישב אף אחד, פתק שלח אותי למלון סמוך. את הלילה נאלצתי ל"בלות" במלון במספר 775. מלון רע, עלוב, ישן, עם ריח של שתן חתולים. (ואני אוהבת חתולים), במקלחת- אמבטיה גבוהה. זוועה!!!! והכי גרוע שכתוב שיש קבלה 24 שעות ולא כך!!!! ב-2200 הם לא היו עד הבוקר!!!במלון השני שהוא חמישה מטרים מזה. במספר 715 אותו בניין ישן אבל המלון ,עבר שיפוץ, הכול נקי נעים מקסים, צוות קבלה עוזר ותומך ארוחת בוקר טובה. מושלם. עוד באותו ערב הודעתי לפקיד הקבלה שישוחח עם בעל המלון או שאני נשארת במלון השני או שאני לוקחת מלון אחר. למזלי (כך קורה בדרך כלל) למחרת התפנה חדר, אותו קיבלתי מוקדם מהצפוי ומאז היה פשוט נפלא.

נא לשים לב היכן אתם מזמינים כי השם אותו שם המלון!!! המלון במספר 775 לא להגיע!!!!!! מוזנח, ריח של ישן, ריח של שתן חתול בחדר, נראה שלא "נגעו" במלון מבפנים מאז הקמתו. המלון באותו רחוב במספר 715 מבחינתי היה מושלם!!!!!!

The Golden Gate Hotel is a cozy little place in a great location. We live in a Victorian house, so this felt just like home. The elevator is too cool and we enjoyed all the vintage pictures. The rooms were very clean and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We would love to visit again someday.

Decaf options would have been nice.

Man I gotta tell you, that 1 short night in that charming creepy hotel room was a surreal dream. I never had a sleep like that in my life, in between this world and the sleep world, I couldn't differentiate where I was at the same time I knew I was in an old hotel with a history over 100 years in that room. I could just smell it, the old wood timber framing and walls emitting a new but familiar pungent musty sour wood smell, the same exact smell is the building of the same era several buildings down the block where I had to check in around 1am due to a delayed flight in. So I knew it was the smell of the old frame and walls, and not unique to my room. That with the tiny space, relatively clean other than maybe a bit of dust in the corners of the carpeted floor. Because I didn't want to unpack anything and have as much time to sleep as possible I just slept in my clothes on top of the bedding, and as I lay there proceeded to spiral into an Alice in wonderland dream like state, but more like myself in a Western tavern getting into shenanigans I can't quiet remember. Only the feeling of being in that room put a spell on me for my sleep there. Like for real that place is haunted, and that's pretty cool if you would like to experience a night like that. But man be careful with yourself and don't go crazy in there, as I can imagine has happened a lot over the years I should mention that while there is a sink in the room there is no bathroom, but a tiny shared bathroom with shower for the floor of maybe 5 small rooms. I don't remember this in the description, maybe it's there, but I had to pee a couple times in middle of the night into the sink. I let the water run while I did it and it washed down clean and fast so the pipes are good, but I can't imagine it being a comfortable night stay for someone who needs to squat down to pee and has to go out to the common toilet in that haunted hotel.
