Golden Gate Hotel

I am writing this review to document a disappointing experience. In October 2025, I booked multiple rooms at the Golden Gate Hotel in San Francisco for a family event - my mother's 90th birthday. Within approximately 24 hours—and more than 90 days BEFORE the scheduled stay—I cancelled the reservation. To be clear, I later noticed the fine print that the booking included a non-refundable, non-changeable policy. However, I was directed to a third-party booking site during the process, and I did not see or fully appreciate those terms at the time of booking or when I cancelled shortly thereafter. While I acknowledge that this was my oversight, I believed it was a reasonable request for the hotel to allow a cancellation within 24 hours—especially given how far in advance the stay was and that no rooms were used. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this directly with the hotel and through Expedia, the hotel retained the full charge of approximately $3,700. No services were provided, and no meaningful flexibility or engagement was offered. And, when contacting the Manager, and even visiting the hotel in person, I never received a response. The issue is not whether a policy existed, but whether there was any willingness to apply reasonable discretion under the circumstances. I would strongly caution others before considering this hotel or its sister hotel the Cornell de France.

Great location to Chinatown, Union Square, Polk Street and BART

I like everything about this property.

Loved the location. Right next to the Masonic.

We arrived during a storm and the lobby was locked. We had to walk to another hotel to check in. We had a toddler with us so it was a bit stressful. Our lights also kept turning on in the middle of the night. It also sounded like someone was outside our fire escape one night.

Cute little hotel right in the city. Old style elevator and fire escapes and everything wonderful. I got in late, but check-in was easy, just a few steps down the street to another hotel where I received my key. This place is so well decorated and full of charm! Great place for me and my dog.

Struttura carina, comoda come posizione, colazione si fa nell' altro hotel, forse c'è poca scelta, magari qualche dolcino non sarebbe male , ma cmq va andava bene anche così. Sicuramente consigliata

Nulla, tutto accettabile, giusto la colazione con magari più scelta ma per il prezzo direi che non ci si deve lamentare.

It was unique and quaint! The cat is very sweet and friendly.

Charming place. Comfortable room (suite).

The breakfast is in the partner hotel, Cornell (2 min walking). It’s not bad, just different. Also the packages bought had to be delivered in Cornell once golden gate reception works from 9-5pm.
