The Admirals Inn Guest House

The room was more than could be expected for the price. A nice TV, a big bathroom, an in room fridge, ironing board with iron and a lamp with USB plug sockets.

1. Check in is not in the property itself, but at the main admiral Cunningham hotel - only a few minutes walk but it was chucking it down and I was getting soaked just as I thought I’d arrived and was looking forward to getting out of the rain. This was not communicated to me before my arrival. 2. The bed was very uncomfortable. I’m not a tall chap, and my head was against the headboard while my feet were crammed down by the foot of the bed. Not conducive to a good nights sleep, that. 3. The doors in the room are extremely hard to open and shut. Not sure why this is, but it resulted in the cleaning staff leaving my room completely unlocked as the door did not shut properly. The front door was also unlocked and ajar when I got back and so it’s quite possible that my stuff could have gone missing. Fortunately not in this case, but it was very unpleasant 4. The iron in the room left a load of black bits all over the shirt I was wearing to someone’s wedding, which wasn’t ideal 5. The fridge goes on and off all the time with an audible ‘pop’ as its thermostat trips. It’s not a problem during the daytime, but it woke me up several times at night.

WiFi was pathetic

The location was very quiet. The room was clean and had everything we needed for an overnight stay. It was convenient and reasonably-priced.

The house is overdue for a refurbish, as the decor was tired and the bathroom fittings quite old. The towel rail fell off when we used it.
