The Abbey Inn & Spa

We’ve stayed at the beautiful Abbey a number of times, and it was sold to a new (corporate) owner in October. There have been changes. The most alarming is they’re pumping a very strong and unpleasant perfumed scent into the front desk area. It permeates the entire floor and goes into the restaurant where it’s all you can taste. I don’t know how the poor front desk people can stand it. One of my favorite spots was their coffee/tea enclosed porch (sadly it no longer has my favorite jasmine tea or croissants 😞), and I could not sit there due to that heavy scent. It was causing a migraine as I waited for the tea water to boil. The staff is lovely as usual, and I hope they can get some relief from the horrible perfume.

We came for a quick romantic trip and had a lovely time despite a snow storm cutting our final morning a bit short. The new winter cocktail menu was superb, the vibe at the bar was impeccable, and the absinthe experience was a special surprise. Excellent massage as well. To top it off, one of the managers gave us a ride to the train station himself so we didn't have to call a cab in the snow --- thank you Mario!

We recently stayed at this hotel for a night. It was nice but maybe not worth the price. The staff was great and very friendly. We had a mix up with our room. We booked a room online with 2 queen beds but it turned out that room did not have working heat so we were proactively moved to a room with a king bed and a pullout couch bed. I was traveling with my husband and my daughter. The bed was fine for my husband and I, but the pullout couch was not comfortable and literally made loud noises all night anytime my daughter moved so it kept us all awake. I asked if we could be discounted the price we paid because we did not get an actual 2 bed room but no one ever followed up with us. The shower was less than desirable as well. The water only got luke warm, but the shower only has a half glass door so the very cold temperature of the actual bathroom made it freezing. We couldn’t stay in for more than a minute. I would have thought at almost $500 for the night that we could have taken a nice shower. We also dined at the restaurant which said was Michelin recommended. That too was only ok. We ordered a drink at the bar from the menu and instead of using the higher quality tequila that was on the menu as an ingredient, we noticed the bartender used a lower end tequila. When we asked, she made a new drink, but it was weird. As for the dinner, the waiter was incredible, but it seemed like he was the only waiter there. He was really stretched and it took a very long time to order, get our food, etc… Overall, at the hotel/restaurant everyone was very nice and professional, but the actual experience did not live up to the website description or the price we paid.

We had a quick getaway for a lovely dinner, a delicious breakfast, and a couples massage. Sitting outside watching the sky and sitting in the sitting area for some tea couldn’t have been more comfortable or relaxing. Highly recommend!

This hotel is beautiful. Located high on a hill overlooking the Hudson River. The staff we encountered were outstanding. The room overlooking the garden was clean and spacious. The bar has a very pleasant atmosphere and delicious cheeseburgers with truffle fries. The bar manager, DONNAN was very accommodating when we arrived after closing time of the restaurant. The front desk staff, especially Laura were welcoming, friendly and gave us good information about the area . The morning coffee/tea room overlooking the Hudson was so pleasant to sit for a while and relax, watching the river. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who asks.

Charming hotel, but be very careful when booking your room. We were surprised to discover that some rooms don’t have a proper bed at all, but instead come with a pull-out sofa for two people. In our case, the staff managed to switch our room, but it easily could have ended differently. Paying $400 per night to sleep on a pull-out sofa is simply unreasonable.
