It was my second time at this hotel and it was not a let down. I still have yet to use the public bath but amenities are helpful - I need a comb. Close walk to the botanical garden and Odori park. Amazing ramen is all within walking distance.

"Modern Ryokan Stay"

8.0

My wife and I stayed here for six nights in early September. In writing this review I'm treating our stay as a Ryokan (Japanese Inn) stay versus a stay at a hotel. Yuen Sapporo is a modern take of a ryokan. Our room had a bed rather than a Futon but was lower than most traditional beds. The floor was traditional tatami where you take your shoes off at the entrance area. There was a modern toilet with a bidet separate from the sink and vanity area. Our room also had a modern stand alone shower. A nice sitting area next to the window with a nice view of the street area. Generally most rooms in a ryokan are going to be small but as a ryokan it was a decent size. We set up our 2 pieces of luggage at the entrance area which was tight for space but we made it work for us. We felt comfortable and were pleasantly surprised at how relatively quiet it was we had no trouble sleeping through the night (our room was on the 5th floor). We made use of the amenities such as the small room fridge and the kettle. Nice to get 2 free bottles of water daily. We loved having the Onsen on property and used it every night (this was the reason we chose this property). We had the offered breakfast once and we really enjoyed the experience of a traditional Japanese breakfast. There is a separate cost and reservations must be made a day in advance. We found the front desk staff friendly and the few we encountered were able to understand basic English. Location wise it is about a 15 minute walk from Sapporo Station (depending on direction) and a couple blocks from Odori Park. There's a Lawson Convenience store just outside near the entrance and restaurants were within a couple blocks of easy walking in a nice and safe area. Having stayed at other ryokans we felt that as a Ryokan stay it was a nice experience and maybe just a bit more comfortable. This is good option if you've haven't stayed at a Ryokan but you're curious to try it or just looking for a different experience than a hotel.

The onsen really helped with our sleep after walking around all day. Breakfast style is authentic Japanese and we’re very happy we got to enjoy it during our stay.
