Velvet 1-bedroom apartment The Clockhouse, Hoddesdon

The decor was pleasant and it was conveniently located for the centre of the village.

We experienced multiple issues with this property, including a broken kettle, broken shower slide which meant the shower head was too low even for our 11-year-old, a broken sofa bed that couldn’t be used as a double as advertised because the locking catches were missing or hanging off so the extendable part just slid away, and a broken latch on one French door meaning it couldn’t be opened. The owner replaced the kettle but made no effort to fix or compensate us for the other broken facilities. The advertised “city view” was a dirty car yard/refuse area with barbed wire and accumulated rubbish in piles around the property, and a view of the supermarket car park. There was considerable noise from rubbish trucks emptying glass bottles from 7am and an extractor fan or suchlike from the neighbouring car mechanics that started up at regular intervals and whirred incredibly loudly for about 10 minutes each time. There were light bulbs missing in the kitchen and the bulb in the utility cupboard was also gone, and the coffee table shown in the pictures was missing. We didn’t use the oven but the knobs seemed very loose so I suspect also wouldn’t work properly. The sheet on the bed was too small for the mattress so kept coming off in one corner, and the bed was quite lumpy. Very disappointing considering the price per night.

Not much

Absolutely stank of cigarette smoke - so much so that all our unworn clothes required washing. Unclean rug and dirty cups in cupboard. Entrance was at the rear of a restaurant with overflowing bins.

Loved the location to the shops - right next door. Apartment was clean and tidy. Very spacious for a one bedroom. Host was in contact and send me great video's on how to find the apartment and access the parking. Had everything I needed and will stay again!

No fault of the apartment but quite noisy with the fans and car repair shop. Good window though that blocked out the most of the sound.

The huge number of waste bins lined up and just below window. A possible odour and pest issue in very hot weather?
