This was one of the things I was looking forward to the most about this trip to Italy. I was very set on staying in one of the Sassi hotels in an actual cave. I did quite a bit of research, but I picked this place because it seemed like a great location and had nice looking photos. My stay was absolutely above expectations. Domenica is such an attentive, thoughtful property manager. Getting to Matera can be a bit of a journey and when my travel plans went sideways, Domenica was incredibly helpful and proactive in finding me solutions. She also gave me a ton of fantastic recommendations for things to do and places to eat even before I arrived at the property. Do yourself a favor and take her up on her suggestions, it's worth it. My stay would have been so much more stressful without her help and consideration and expertise. The room was fantastic and very comfortable. It was very cool to stay in a cave room, and doubly nice that it was updated to meet modern comforts as well. It's such a unique experience and definitely a must do if you're coming to Matera.

This wasn't an issue for me, but if you're not a fan of close to total darkness, then just keep that in mind when booking. The room was well lit with the lights on, but did take some adjusting to for sleeping the first night. Also was not an issue for me, but pack lightly if you will be arriving on foot as there are quite a few stairs and cobble stone walkways to arrive at the property. But you can also arrive by taxi no problem, so isn't a big issue.

The property was a unique cave design room and bathroom that was exceptional! Everything was spotless. Bed was super comfortable. Coffee and tea were provided as well as a delicious morning pastry from a local bakery. Located in the heart of old Matera. Easy to find with instructions from Domenica. We loved it so much we stayed a third day. We should have stayed even longer. Domenica helped us with maps, tour and restaurant suggestions - she was absolutely amazing.

We liked everything! The location is perfect, near and easy access to the main Matera attractions and points of interest. As a plus, the support provided by Domenica ... incredible! The room we stayed, number one, was beyond our expectations. We totally indicate this place.
