Sylvis Hostel Chiangmai

Rooms and bathrooms were very clean, open floor plan was nice, pretty sociable but quiet after 11pm so had a nice balance. Staff were super friendly and helpful with booking activities and any queries (lost my headphones, messaged Bo and the housekeeper had found them and she put them in a labelled bag!). Great location - walkable to some great restaurants, bars, 7/11 (of course), shops, etc.

Bathroom was HOT. Very humid despite a fan. Rooms were a little cramped.

The best thing about this place is the atmosphere! Definitely good for a social traveller with a lot of energy. There is a bar right outside your front door and people hanging out in the common area pretty much at all times of the day. We appreciated having such a nice outdoor area to relax in and my fiance and I spent a lot of time enjoying coffee and playing cards on the patio. The staff organizes activities as well so its easy to find things to do and people to do them with. It's also right across the street from a much louder party hostel so it sort of latches on to those vibes at night and we saw people mingling back and forth between the two functions. The location was great and we were able to walk to almost everything we wanted to do around Chiang Mai and it was always within pickup range for day trips.

Quiet hours are not until 12-12:30am and its about as loud as it can get until then. We stayed in the small double room on the first floor and could clearly here everything happening at the bar outside so bring ear plugs if you have to get up early! also, the bed was hard as a rock. my fiance liked it but I thought it was a bit too hard. Our toilet was leaking water onto the bathroom floor which was a mild annoyance and there appeared to be some mold in the corner of the room. Not a big deal, but we didn't have a TV in the room like booking.com said we would have. we stayed for 4 days and are not high maintenance so none of this matter much to us but important to note for others who may be more particular/like to spend more time in their room. In terms of getting what you pay for, you're paying mostly for the bar/social aspect/common space this place offers than the quality of the room itself.
