Tokiwa Ryokan

In Fussnähe gibt es einen Supermarkt. Das Personal spricht ein bisschen Englisch und ist freundlich. Das japanische Frühstück ist lecker, teilweise beinhaltet es auch westliche Küche (z.B. Spiegeleier, Würstchen).

Da es in den Zimmern keine Dusche/Badewanne gibt, muss das hotelinterne Onsen genutzt werden (getrennt nach Geschlecht). Das Onsen hat wie üblich nur eine Gemeinschaftsdusche mit 2-3 Brausen, ist eher veraltet und teilweise etwas schmuddelig (Haare am Boden). Nikko ist nur per Bus erreichbar, dort finden sich auch Restaurants. Wer abends essen gehen will, kann spätestens um 18:00 Uhr mit dem letzten Bus zurückfahren. Die Futonbetten sind im Vergleich zu anderen Ryokans deutlich unbequemer und durchgelegen. Es kann auf Nachfrage nicht gewaschen werden, die Waschmaschine ist nur privat.

Somehow we got to a wrong place from google map keying in only "Tokiwa Ryokan" but not the full address. We got to wrong place at 9pm plus and only realized it about 9.30-9.40pm ....while last check in time was suppose to be 10pm. I called up Tokiwa Ryokan and communicate through Google translate saying we only can reach 10.30pm. Owner / Staff is kind enough to allow, and when we arrived, he even offered to extend bath hours to 11.30pm for us (usually is until 11pm). Feel touched with the extra mile.

The staff was really friendly, they even stored our luggage and later put them in our room. The onsen was comfortably hor. The food smelled really good but we didn’t have time to eat there. It’s close, by bus, to Tōshō-gū. The yukatas they let you use for free were really comfy, as well as the beds. The room felt japanese and not western, which was nice.

The entrance is not directly in front of the road, you have to look a bit from the side.

love the food and the room! there are 2 showers in the bath so may get crowded depending on timing but temperature is great. location is quiet and near familymart too!

when nikko gets very crowded with tourists, it may get difficult to board the bus as it is closer to lake chuzenji than nikko terminal where most people board...

Tokiwa Ryokan is a very fair priced gem I can very much recommend. The location is good: it can easily be reached by Tobu Bus (Bus Stop 18). From there, you can easily get to both Chuzenji Lake/Yumoto Onsen and the world heritage area. The owners are very friendly, breakfast and dinner (book in advance) are amazing. It is a great place to stay even for foreigners and I can only encourage you to consider it.
