Marriott Tacoma Downtown

On November 27th, we checked into the Marriott Tacoma Downtown for our second stay at this property. We arrived around 10 PM, and the front desk was assisted by a young blonde female staff member. Her attitude was noticeably cold and unwelcoming. As a Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, I requested a 4 PM late checkout, but she declined immediately without any consideration and insisted that we must check out by 11 AM. I explained that as a high-tier elite member, late checkout—if not until 4 PM, then at least until 2 PM—is usually accommodated. She told me that because I used a Suite Night Award to upgrade to a suite, the room would require more cleaning time and the hotel was fully booked. Her explanation did not make much sense. We did not argue further and were only able to secure a noon checkout. In addition, she did not acknowledge or explain any of my elite benefits such as welcome points, drink vouchers, or complimentary breakfast. She even provided only one room key. The next morning, I went to the front desk to request our breakfast vouchers and to inquire again about late checkout. Elaine immediately approved a 4 PM checkout for us. I also told her about the experience we had the night before, and she promptly informed the supervisor, Ivamia, about my concerns. Ivamia apologized and offered 5,000 points as compensation, which I have not yet received, but I truly appreciated her gesture and Despite this unpleasant encounter, I still really like Marriott Tacoma Downtown. The location is excellent, the parking garage has free EV chargers, and the upgraded suite we received this time was spacious and very comfortable. Although this stay had a negative moment, I will continue to visit this property again in the future.

Friendly staff, great location, reasonable rates / parking. Not really sure why it only has 3 stars on Trip Advisor - we had no issues here and will return the next time we're in Tacoma.

I stayed for 2 nights and it was very unpleasant. First, upon check in there were cars abandoned in their guest check in area making it impossible to pull in. This resulted in cars backing up onto the road. Second, once I managed to check in, I discivered that one has to use the keycard to get the elevator to work. But -- the scanner is on only one side while there are buttons on both sides. You have to maneuver around others to get to the scanner and then hold your keycard to the scanner while searching for the button for the floor. Then, there was no hot water for the shower. Lastly, my key card did not unlock my room door properly and I had to try several times. All this for $500?? Not worth it.
