Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol University

My husband and I stayed here for our daughter’s orientation at FAMU. This hotel is nearly on the campus, which was a plus. Parking was easy and 25 dollars a night, which I did not know ahead of time but it was fine. I can see parking potentially being an issue during busier times (like game days) because parking is very limited. Check-in was pretty easy. You must use your key to access any floor which is a plus but also a hassle and made me wonder about the safety of the area. Now, upon reaching the 2nd floor I was a little taken aback because the hallway did not have a pleasant smell. I assumed because there are kitchenettes, someone was cooking. The room (King Suite w/ Kitchenette) was very nice. It was clean, spacious and pretty. The bed was not comfortable at all though, and if you are a light sleeper you will be awakened by everything on the street. The walk-in shower and closet space was nice. Checkout was easy and the attendant was friendly. Would I stay here again? Yes due to the cleanliness, size of the room, and convenience to the campus. Oh, the free breakfast was a nice touch although.

Room was not ready when we arrived at 6 PM. Took another hour for the room to be ready after we had been traveling with a dog and toddler. Instant cart unable to bring order to room and was unable to reach front desk staff for assistance. I was unable to leave the room due to a sleeping child. I ended up having to wait until my husband returned for him to go grab the order. Breakfast was good and the room was clean and well maintained. Unfortunately the whole stay was soured from the check in and delivery issues.

Close to everything gas station, Publix, CVS, little convenient stores, shopping centers, very close to FSU campus

This place is more of a "crash pad" than a hotel stay. I don't recommend it if you're planning to spend more than an hour at a time in your room; it just isn't comfortable. It's like our room wasn't cleaned properly, and there's a lot going on. Construction outside window, bugs left near windows and in kitchen, shower drain clogged before arrival, paint peeling off walls in bathroom, broken ice machines on multiple floors, hearing noises from neighbors, pre-used bar soaps, parking $25/day and $50/day securities fees for things used in the room (the securities fee is refunded but not the parking fee). It looks like someone had a crash-out in this room. There's stains on the wall where someone was kicking at it, ripped sheets on one of the beds, broken shower-pump for soap, and a broken soap tray in the shower. I don't recommend staying here if you have young kids. It's close to colleges, so it's about what you'd expect for noise and culture. Good luck trying to get your kid to nap with the loud music, cars driving by blasting music, and yelling from the pool/road outside. The pool and sidewalks around always have people smoking weed at pretty much every hour of the day, so if you're not cool with that around your kid, keep in mind you'll have a tough time avoiding it. At least the staff were very kind and responsive, and available at all hours of the day. Breakfast was on par with what you'd expect from a chain hotel. I don't have much else positive to say, and that's unfortunate. I recommend being critical of all the positive reviews on this hotel, as that was nothing like our experience, and we went on an off-season date when colleges were between semesters.
