We have just returned from an 11 night stay here, and wanted to leave a thorough review, easiest way to do that is list the pros and cons:
PROS:
* Food & Drink - for us, we don’t usually expect too much from an AI, and prefer to eat out where the locals eat, however the food here in the main buffet was some of the best we have ever experienced. A great selection at breakfast, and all food we tried in the evening was delicious. We would confidently say it was the best AI buffet we’ve ever experienced. We also ate in 2 of of the A La Carte (the Italian twice, and the Asian) these were both outstanding. And set in beautiful surroundings. The AI drinks options were also excellent for what they are. The snack bars offerings during the day were also delicious! And very quick service (it’s also very handy that they have self serve drinks stations here including beer.)
* Facilities - the hotels facilities we thought were fantastic. The hotel was immaculately clean throughout, plenty of toilet options around, a very well stocked shop on site, games room, children’s play area (however this is not shaded - something we feel was missed) Astro football pitch, tennis courts etc. the pool areas are beautiful, with plenty of space & sunbeds for all the guests. The waterpark is a fantastic addition, and one that kept our 8yr old entertained. Excellent slides, and well managed by the lifeguards in terms of safety. The spa was lovely too. The room we had was beautiful, with a gorgeous view, and had almost everything we needed (will touch on this very quickly in the ‘cons’)
* Location - the hotel is situated 30 mins from both Rhodes Old town, and Lindos, which for us, was ideal, as we always hire a car to explore, however some guests may find it’s possibly abit isolated if they don’t want to do this. There is not much around in the immediate area to explore on foot. It is only a short taxi ride from Tsambika Beach (though this is €20 in each direction) Despite what the hotel may say, expect to pay cash to the driver. There are also ATMs at the beach which work with NFC which is very handy! To get a taxi back the staff at the restaurant can book this for you. Very helpful!
* Staff - this is the area that the hotel excels in, and one of the main reasons we will not hesitate to come back for. The staff here are outstanding. Every single person we encountered were friendly, super helpful, funny, and went the extra mile to engage in conversation and to help. They work so hard, and such long hours, but do not let on to you, the guest. They always greet you with a smile, and don’t make you feel like you are a burden. Special mentions include Eleni at the bar, Konstantinos in the restaurant, Konstantina in the Italian, all the staff at the pool bars (sorry I did not note all names) and the reception ladies. The spa ladies were also fantastic. We cannot comment enough on how wonderful everyone was, a real credit to this hotel. (The gentleman in the morning at the lobby bar always greeted us with a smile, and makes the best frappes!) all of the ladies in the shop were fun and engaging too! Helping to teach us more Greek during our stay!
* Entertainment - hotel entertainment isn’t usually our thing, however I will say that for families with kids, it was great! Our son loved the nightly discos, and entertainment on offer, and was particularly impressed with the daily pool side mini shows (the pirate show being a particular favorite!) and the Pool party with fireworks was a family highlight! So much fun!!
* Kids club - we booked through TUI, and the kids club runs twice a day for 2 hours each. The days that our son attended, he loved it! Lots to entertain them, with a changing activity programme. I will also note the atlantica entertainment team were just as fantastic! The staff appear to really care for your children and take an interest in them! There is also a weekly football tournament for anyone who’s children like that too!
CONS (and I’d like to note that we are nit picking on these, there are not many)
Room - we stayed in room 239, which had a beautiful view (see photo) however the noise level when the entertainment was on - was ASIF we had the doors wide open. With small children trying to sleep, this could be a major issue. We did report this to reception, and they did send someone very quickly however I don’t think there is anything they can do in terms of soundproofing. The noise from the hallway is also very loud, you can hear everyone’s conversations as they walk around and close doors etc. there is also no iron available for the rooms (instead a ‘ironing room’ which we found slightly annoying. Something to bear in mind when looking at room location.
Location - as I touched on earlier - for those who like to explore locally, this may feel slightly isolated, this is not the hotels fault though, and the hotel provides more than enough for those who just want to come and relax for the duration of their stay.
Main restaurant - for us, the only downside to the main buffet was the lack of smoothies to drink (very personal, and purely because our son likes one normally at breakfast) and lack of fresh omelette station in the morning - they do have omelettes - but they are not made to order with your own choice of topping. It is also very hot inside in the evening.
Overall, a brilliant family holiday that we are very sad to be home from now, where the staff are amazing, grounds amazing, food amazing etc! And we very much look forward to coming back in the near future!
