Quiet Mind Mountain Lodge, Retreat & Spa

Where to begin... We stayed here for 1 night to celebrate a birthday and notified the retreat ahead of time. We were contacted about a week prior to our arrival and was told there was a plumbing issue with one of our rooms so we were being moved to different rooms upstairs. We had booked 2 lake view rooms, but only one room had a lake view.. very disappointing given it's not what we paid for, but they offered to give each of the 4 of us a $45 spa credit so had no choice but to make the best of it. When we got to our room, we noticed there were some stains on the comforter, as well as even larger stains on one of our robes. There was also a large puddle that was actively forming outside of our mini fridge so we let the staff know and they said they'd come fix it while we were at our sauna/salt therapy session. We do sauna sessions back home regularly and this one was disappointing. For starters, the door would not lock which was very uncomfortable for undressing and something I've never experienced at a sauna - a locking door is standard. The "salt therapy" was a joke and very cheaply put together in a small area outside of the small sauna. It was not the kind of salt therapy we were expecting at all and certainly was not worth paying for. The staff texted us claiming they fixed our leaking mini fridge but when we returned, another large puddle had already formed. When we opened the fridge, there was even more water inside all over everything, including a leftover takeout box I had put in there from a restaurant we had gone to. Unfortunately, I had to throw the leftovers away since it was drenched in water. We informed the staff that the fridge was still broken and actively leaking, and they said they would fix it while we ate our dinner in the common area. We were texted saying our dinner would be delivered to us in 30 minutes.. an hour later we texted asking for an update and they said they would bring it out shortly. Very bizarre to set expectations and not meet them or inform the guests of the delay when it took twice the amount of time they told us it would take. Our food did not arrive until 8:30pm which is a very late dinner for us. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt despite all these hiccups we faced within just a few hours of checking in, but it was just one problem after another. We were told we had to place our dinner order a couple days in advance (because the food is supposed to be fresh and locally sourced I think?) so we did. To put it simply, the food sucked. Nothing tasted fresh, local or healthy. The club sandwich I ordered was flavorless with very little inside. It was mostly bread and the bread was like store bought white wonder bread. DISGUSTING! Not worth the over $20 price tag. The birthday girl ordered the curry and she said it was bland and nothing special given how expensive it was. I tried it as well and it was the worst curry I've ever tasted. I also ordered a green juice which tasted extremely sweet! What the heck! It also wasn't green.. it was a darker grey-ish color. In no way did it look like or taste like a green juice. Another swing and a miss. The dinner was extremely unappetizing and none of us enjoyed it. After another disappointing experience, we returned to our room where a towel had been placed on the outside of our mini fridge. What a day... Now for the sleeping part of this experience... AWFUL!!! The walls are INCREDIBLY thin, and you could hear people talking and walking down the entire hallway and surrounding areas. The wooden floors made it extra loud and frightening when waking up to loud stomps in the very late night and early morning hours. You could see into the hallway through the door to our room... so janky looking and allowed even more unwanted noise to come through. The AC unit in the room made it extremely hard to sleep due to the extremely bright LED light shining from it indicating the temperature. THE WORST PART was that there was no locking mechanism on our door like any standard hotel/motel would have! We had to slide our nightstand in front of the door just to have some peace of mind while we slept. I saw a review from another guest on Trip Advisor who had to do the same thing just to feel safe. Our friends in the other room we booked complained about the very same things. The next morning, we experienced another joke of a meal which was the continental breakfast. Eggs were advertised in the continental breakfast, yet there were no eggs in sight, just yogurt, store bought stale croissants and english muffins and literally just THE SMALLEST AMOUNT of butter, cream cheese, and jam. I WAS IN SHOCK BY HOW CHEAP THIS PLACE WAS. We got there right when breakfast hours began and could not believe how little they put out to serve, as if it was farm fresh or something (it wasn't). How do you only put a quarter stick of butter, a few tablespoons of jam and cream cheese for the entire 2 hour breakfast period for all your guests to "enjoy"?? Our friends went an hour later than us, and said there was barely anything left - I saw that coming! The orange juice was store bought as well - I saw the empty carton of a very low quality brand in the trash. We took our pathetic looking breakfast back to our room to "enjoy" with our lake view (the ONLY good thing about this place). When we returned to our room, we saw the door had been opened and left ajar... we know for a fact we closed it when we left, so this was just another cherry on top of the worst stay of our lives. No one was inside our room, but someone definitely was before we had gotten there! SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL! When we sat down to have our mediocre breakfast, something loud hit the floor. I looked under my chair and a very large screw had fallen out. It was just laughable at that point how awful this "retreat" was. The gym was in horrible condition, I can't even explain. Looked like unfinished construction that they half-assed. For this HORRIBLE experience, they compensated our disgusting dinner, but really our entire stay should have been comped as my significant other did not enjoy her birthday spent here. This place is the farthest thing from relaxing. Pay more and stay somewhere better! We originally were going to stay at a nicer place in Julian, but it was booked for a private event that weekend which is the only reason we ended up here. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK!

Very friendly staff. Great view of the lake from our balcony. Comfortable room and bed.

Hot tub was cold and only half full of water. The pub near the lodge serves good burgers, but closes at 5pm in the winter. Nearest other dining is at least 8 miles in either direction, so you may want to bring dinner if arriving late.

Beware: Do not stay here!!!! Please pick another place! The view is beautiful & that’s it. There’s a main road between resort & lake. The online resort photos are deceiving. Advertised as a zen resort, it’s more a Buddhist themed place with Buddhist deities everywhere, lumpy beds, missing floor planks, portable shower station, non functioning air conditioning and MICE!!!!! Yes MICE in your room!!!! Their spa & breakfast services are a joke. $19 for avocado toast!! This is not a high end hotel to charge $19 for avocado toast. There is no phone in your room, if you need help. You can hear your neighbor conversing. They will make you sign a “no refund” policy before you see your room.. red flag. Definitely not worth $200+/night, more like a money grab. The minute we saw MICE in our room- we left immediately & have video! I’ve never encountered mice in a room until this place & I’ve traveled globally. Traumatic experience!

Very nice and quiet. Good location. Good selection of food and beverages. The staff was very pleasant.

They need some updating. It was a little worn out in some places. The interior ceiling needs repair in some areas.

It was wonderful! It was worth the extra drive - Kind & amazing staff, beautiful environment, great included breakfast & dinner I ordered, jacuzzi is amazing outside

The calm and quiet of the retreat. There were several areas of relaxation. Spa treatments did not disappoint. Food was easy to order and very yummy.

Our room was close to an exit, which caused us to hear more noise than expected. The pillows need to be replaced. Room had a few cobwebs, could have used a deep clean.
