Couch Potato Hostel

It's one of the nicest hostels I have visited. It is such a welcoming, relaxing, respectful atmosphere. It's a mixture of old traditional Japanese, modern and minimalist. The owner is a lovely guy who has travelled the world and has probably stayed in many hostels himself and curated one that probably was thought about and designed with all the best things he has experienced in all his travels. There are lots of little details, like a lovely book of recommendation for visiting the area, shampoo in the shower, free bikes and washing machines etc that makes every travels life a little bit better.

The staff was charming, the bed was comfortable, they offered everything I could have expected and more.

Nothing. I wish I had booked more time in advance to book more than two nights. There's so much to do in Matsumoto and so little time...

It was a perfect location with great staff and very clean! The staff have thought about every need.

Very nice, comfortable and old fashioned hostel. Free bikes and soap (for the nearby onsen) were provided. The owners were very friendly and the atmosphere was really comfy. Great hostel and absolutely recommendable for Matsumoto!

Super lovely hostel. The luggage store was so easy (before and after check in), the lady who checked me in was so friendly and helpful. The kitchen and shared space was great.

Great common space, nice kitchen with sharpened knifes, free washing machine. The hosts are very nice and willing to help. And best of all, they provided portable shampoo and body soap kit so you can go to sento (public bath) without worries!

There is no exhaust system in the kitchen so windows need to be opened for refresh air. However, sometimes there are people smoking right outside the window.

Prachtig oud gebouw in traditioneel Japanse stijl. Voelt heel authentiek, open en gezellig. Behulpzame aanwijzingen en kaarten. Super schoon. Was graag langer gebleven.

Inchecken aan de late kant, maar kan bagage kwijt bij de lobby. Het matras is traditioneel, en dus niet heel dik.
