Guesthouse Kikokuan

Good location, the owner was very helpful in assisting with our luggage drop off.

Our stay at Guesthouse Kikokuan was a bit disappointing overall. The main issue was the size of the room, it was incredibly small, to the point where we could barely move around or find space to open our bags. It felt quite cramped and made the stay less comfortable than we had hoped. If you’re used to very compact spaces (or don’t mind living like a hobbit for a night or two), it might be manageable, but for most travelers, the lack of space could be a significant drawback

It's a cute place at a great location and the owner was polite and helpful when we inquired about the municipal tax he asked us to pay. The place is spacious enough for two people, was clean and easy to access and we generally would stay there again.

The main issue for me was a strange smell that the house seems to have, possibly because of humidity. The stairs are also quite steep so I wouldn't recommend it for people who might find that challenging. The sheets were quite worn out, mine had a small hole. Finally, there is a "hidden" municipality tax in the booking that we had not been told about until arrival. However, it is mentioned in the booking.com confirmation email that taxes might apply and as I said, the owner was polite and helpful and patient in sorting this out.

the stairs made moving stuff abit difficult, although we left the luggage downstairs, we had to go up and down a lot just to grab stuff. location wasn’t the best but not bad either.

The good things are probably the location and the easy check-in process. I can’t really say there are more pros.

The cons: the house has an unpleasant, musty smell that I couldn’t get rid of by airing it out. It’s very noisy — the windows feel almost always open, so the street noise is loud. It’s quite stuffy on the second floor. There are some dishes, but only the minimum set. And also the stairs — with my height (185 cm), I kept forgetting that the ceiling is low and hit my head a few times.
