The West Bay Hotel

We visited overnight on one of the hottest days of the year. Parking was no problem - free and on tarmac in a walled off area just over the road. Parking charges in this resort are in the region of £15 per day. Our room was large and overlooked the Pub Garden with a view of the former station now a restaurant with dining carriages. The room is accessible from the street without going through the bar area but has direct access to the bar and restaurant. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was supplied with bottled water, tea and coffee making gadgets. The main feature was an enormous Super King extremely comfortable double bed. Side tables with drawers were provided but hanging space and shelves for clothing were minimalistic but fine for one night. Very large well equipped bathroom with walk in shower and external window was fine. Breakfast was cooked to order and wonderful. Great location.

Fab location near to the port and beach. Fabulous bed and bedding. lovely size room. Great breakfast. Very friendly staff. Not near to the 'shopping' end of town if that is what you are looking for. But defo worth a stay.

The family room we had was perfect. Great size and sliding doors, lovely beds big enough for adults and beautiful sheets and towels. All amenities you need

Overpriced, areas need attention eg black mould in bathroom, shower wouldn’t turn off fully, lukewarm water,no bath mat, dogs running around. Room so noisy from above, clumping around ,plumbing noise, noisy returning guests No quality check on leaving

Very comfortable large bed in the Tally Ho room plus a great breakfast

The bed was extremely comfortable and was the best part of the room. The amenities were nice and the room was as depicted in the photos. The welcome was pleasant but cooled somewhat once they realised we’d booked through Hotels.com. We were told we wouldn’t get breakfast because of it. That’s fine but perhaps phrase it as “so that’s room only tonight” instead. Noise carries throughout. Whilst we couldn’t hear the noise directly from the pub, we could hear the conversation of people on our floor and the floors creaking throughout the night when people moved around. It wasn’t too bad but the discomfort caused would be subject to the behaviours of your fellow guests when you stay. The most disappointing aspect was the bathroom. Looks fine but function was poor. The shower was lukewarm, the toilet was fickle and required extra attention and the tap over the vanity was too short resulting in water over the bench top instead of on your hands, etc. Overall, the stay was satisfactory for the one night because the bed was so good.

Room clean, spacious and comfortable, although it was quite warm. Evening meal good and served by very polite and friendly young man. However Breakfast was a massive disappointment. We were asked to pre-book our breakfast when we arrived the evening before. We noted there was several cooked options but no mention of cereals; fresh fruit; fruit juice yoguart toast etc. When I questioned this, the young girl behind the bar wasn`t sure as to what breakfast items were available. I didnt pursue the issue further. We assumed all would be available at breakfast and simply ordered our cooked breakfasts on the form provided. Next day breakfast was served - there were no cereals; fresh fruit or fruit juice or yogarts on show. We had to ask for fruit juice and cereals as they were not offered. We were advised there were two flavours available - apple and orange juice so we ordered accordingly. We asked for cereals and were advised that as the breakfast had been cooked for a specific time, that it was on its way and that actually there wasn`t much in, in the way of cereals and all that was available was Special K and something else (can`t remember what). However it was clear that these would not be forthcoming as `breakfast was on its way`. The cost of the band b for one night with our dog was £148.50, (which we had to pay within minutes of our arrival) plus we had spent £90 on our evening meal and drinks in the establishment. On reflection I really think we were robbed with regards to this breakfast particularly on reading past reviews where it appears customers had had a choice of cereals/toast/marmalade etc (toast and marmalade were also not offered) and one customer`s dog had a breakfast each morning! No wonder the British hospitality sector is going down the drain and of course as we had had to pay the cost of our stay within minutes of our arrival there was no room for re-negotiation of the price. My husband`s birthday treat was at best a lukewarm experience.

Had a lovely stay, room was really lovely, everything was catered for although could have done with some instructions for the TV !! Breakfast was excellent and all the staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay again.
