The Market Hotel Groningen

Situated in the heart of Groningen the Market is a brilliant hotel, the location is excellent for the local restaurants and bars. The hotel and the staff are both excellent, the rooms are comfortable and welcoming with the comfiest pillows and quilt. The reception staff are brilliant and so helpful.

Having stayed in the hotel many times the level of professionalism and warmth shown by the staff is second to none, and even with the challenges their are experiencing at the moment they continue to maintain their extremely high standards.

Really, this was one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in, for value. Super comfy rooms and beds and every detail taken care of. Staff very helpful. When I first asked for some milk it didn’t go down very well, so I tried the night concierge - who immediately fetched me an entire litre! There is a little fridge in the room, so it was perfect for English tea people. Kettle etc as well - unusual in Europe. Beautiful bathroom and great view of the city. Best, it’s in a really central location - which we needed- and really felt in the middle of things. Because of a fire, the restaurant and the usual facilities are unavailable so breakfast is in a restaurant round the corner. The first day was chaos as the coffee machine broke and we picked a very crowded time… the other two days ( much later and much earlier) were fine and the breakfast was AMAZING - literally everything you could possible want! Excellent quality and service. They kindly accommodated our son for breakfast on the last day. Very happy with the hotel and would certainly recommend.

Not really a hotel problem, but something was happening outside in the market every night Into the late hours of the night. I stayed here multiple times in the past, this was the first time the outside noise kept me awake. Otherwise clean and very friendly.

Mooie ruime en comfortabele kamer. Alles wat je mag verwachten in een hotel van deze prijsklasse is aanwezig. De kamer trof ik schoon en netjes aan. Het was goed slapen in het aanwezige bed. Ik had een kamer aan de achterkant van het hotel met uitzicht op het Forum. Geen fraai gebouw, maar wel aan de rustige zijde.

On the positive side, the room was spacious and clean, which made my stay quite comfortable. Restaurants and shops are also on a walking distance. However, a major disadvantage was the noise from outside. Even with the doors and windows closed, it was quite loud, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Overall, while the hotel has its merits, the noise issue is something to consider if you're a light sleeper.
