"Wonderful hotel"

10.0

We are on a two week road trip and are staying in a variety of accommodations. The National Exchange has been my absolute favorite. The details of the decor are fantastic - wallpapers, photos, so many special touches. We ate three meals at Lolaโ€™s - all were delicious. Best tea service ever!

"Great Hotel!! Disappointing Restaurant!"

6.0

We booked a one-night staycation at the National Hotel to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, and the hotel itself did not disappoint. The staff were professional, friendly, and attentive, and our room was beautiful with an exceptionally comfortable bed. Part of the reason we chose this location was sentimental, we wanted to recreate the night my husband proposed to me four years ago, when we had a fabulous dinner at the hotelโ€™s restaurant, Lolaโ€™s. Unfortunately, this time around, the dining experience fell far short of expectations. We brought a very expensive, special bottle of wine to enjoy with dinner and paid a $30 corkage fee, yet we were left to pour it ourselves. Both of our steaks, ordered medium rare, came out rare. Mine so undercooked it was rubbery. We considered sending them back, but after already waiting nearly two hours for food service, we didnโ€™t want to extend the evening further. While our server was polite, she checked on us only occasionally, and by the time dessert was offered, we had been sitting there for two and a half hours. Sadly, this ruined the flow of our evening and our other anniversary plans. For the hotel, I would happily return, itโ€™s a charming place to stay. But for a special occasion dinner, Lolaโ€™s is no longer somewhere I could recommend.

Absolutely loved our stay here. The second-story deck overlooking the historic street was so nice.

The authenticity of this hotel and Nevada City itself brings you back in time. You feel like a wealthy person from the 1800s. Impeccably clean and well-appointed with all the comforts of a modern hotel, including robes. The sometimes crooked floors and steps, the huge moldings and wainscoting, the winding passages, and the antique furnishings add authentic historical charm. I think it might be haunted, but in a good way. Finally, the huge second story balcony overlooking Broad Street was the perfect spot to relax in the afternoon with a glass of wine.

I have breathing issues and when they saw that the third floor was to steep for me to go up, they switched my room to another floor immediately. I greatly appreciate the lady name Jenna that was so thoughtful in helping me with my bags an room change.

I had a wonderful stay here. The historic hotel and town is a great getaway for everyone. The location is perfect. Steps away from lots of interesting things to do. The staff are so helpful in every way. I will definitely return.

"Pretty but painful night sleep..."

4.0

The location is prime and the town is interesting, quirky, and cute. The vintage decor is very pretty. However, service is painfully slow and the walls are paper thin. The bed is uncomfortable and the sheets are absolutely hot and don't breathe at all. The room is tiny and we left one day early, forfeiting our stay because we needed real sleep.
