Hotel Grand Stark

I stayed at the Grand Stark Hotel in Portland over Thanksgiving while visiting family, and honestly, it was a solid experience. The hotel itself is quaint and charming. You can tell it’s an older building, but the updates were done right. The rooms feel modern where it matters. The beds were super comfortable, and the place has a cozy vibe, though the lighting in the rooms is pretty dim even with everything turned on. The staff was friendly, helpful, and chill the entire time. No issues there at all. The only thing to note is the surrounding area. There's a noticeable homeless presence outside, but that’s kind of Portland in general these days. Inside the hotel, though, it felt calm, safe, and peaceful. Overall, for the price and the vibe, it was a decent stay. Comfortable, quiet, and a good spot for my holiday trip. Would stay again.

BEAUTIFUL building! Lovely little details and very comfortable room; bathroom is like a spa, bed has great linens, and I the soap/lotion smells wonderful.

This place is so dope! Exceeded my expectations. Such cute rooms and good space.

We always stay at either the Grand Stark or Stay Pineapple when we come to town for shows at 45 East or The Den. Both hotels are within walking distance. Preferably Hotel Grand Stark. But if they're booked for that night our second best is Stay Pineapple.

It’s a great location for when my husband and I want to go out to our favorite club down the street.

The faucet handle wasn’t working properly making it difficult to shut off. We noticed the price was higher than when we stayed there in July. We might go back to taking a Lyft rather than spend the night in town.

This hotel is fantastic! I was traveling with my dog for a business trip and before I got there they texted me to check my arrival time and to see how they could best accommodate myself and my dog. They answered any questions I had quickly before arrival and upon arrival were welcoming and very helpful with getting us checked in right away. The rooms are clean, cute and comfortable and the showers are amazing! Great water pressure [which if you travel a lot you know is not a promised thing] and spacious. Every single staff I interacted with was very kind and they LOVED on my dog. Bed, bowls, treats and a toy was provided and my boy loved it! If I ever had questions or needed assistance with anything everyone was polite and you could text or talk to a real human. I had an unfortunate incident with my car while staying there and everyone was extremely helpful and understanding about it. They all asked how they could help and genuinely cared. I didn´t hear my neighbors once as well. Any time I stay in Portland I will definitely be returning to this hotel!

I stayed here while attending the Functional Fabric Fair at the Oregon Convention Center. It was a great location — about a 15-minute walk that let me get familiar with the area. I left my car parked for my entire stay and walked everywhere, including to dinner, live music, and business functions. I felt safe in the neighborhood, even walking back in the evenings. The hotel itself has an old Portland charm — the building shows its age in places, but that’s part of the appeal. My room was comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully designed, with everything I needed for a work trip. The staff were friendly, engaging, and respectful, which made the stay easy and welcoming. If I could suggest anything, it would be to add a few wall hooks near the door or by the closet for jackets and bags. Also, the scent or incense in the lobby was quite strong — not unpleasant, but a bit overwhelming. Otherwise, I loved the atmosphere and would definitely stay again.

The location was convenient for what we had planned in Portland

The first room we were given was facing a busy street and was very noisy. We requested a different, quieter room which we only given to us after some back and fourth. The room was pitched to us as an „upgrade“ however there was nothing better about this room except it was quiet. In fact, the layout of the room was awkward, with the bed in the center of the room, no night stand or plugs for phones near the bed and the tv parallel to the bed. Cleanliness of the room was ok at best. Valet prices were $50something plus tip per night.
