Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas, a Hyatt Resort

My wife and I stayed here at the Alila Marea Beach Resort in Encinitas for our first wedding anniversary. This place did not disappoint! From the moment we stepped foot on the property, our experience was fantastic. We were greeted by the most friendly staff with smiles on their faces and an enthusiastic attitude. I have to give a huge thank you to Dennise & the rest of the guest experience team for going above and beyond in helping me prepare for a romantic entrance into our room. It absolutely set the tone for the remainder of our stay! The rooms smell amazing, the fresh eucalyptus hanging in the shower was next level, the view from the room (Ocean view room with balcony) was 100% worth every penny. I cannot stress enough how amazing the entire staff is at this location. I never felt like we were catered to in every little thing we did. We will definitely be coming back!

Alila is our preferred property when in CA - we have historically had similar issues and the Alila team always endeavored to address the issue, in fact, this time, at check-in Val recognized this issue, brought it up and suggested to have daily housekeeping between 10:00-12:00PM - not sure what else to do, I believe there is a PROCESS issue with housekeeping, how does the team miss a room?? makes no sense to me.....

This resort is nothing short of magical. The obvious selling point is the location and absolutely stunning views of the ocean. But the overall experience was so relaxing. The rooms are modern but also warm and inviting - the bed was so comfy and the shower was incredible. The pool overlooks the ocean and features a dry sauna with ocean views as well. There is light music at the pool to make it a vibe for enjoying a cocktail, but it was also quiet enough if you want to read a book. The spa is intimate and lovely, and all three dining outlets on the property offered something different, and we enjoyed all of them. You really don't even have to leave the resort for a weekend here, especially since you can just walk down to the beach. Highly recommend for a relaxing and tranquil oceanfront retreat.

We stayed at Alila Marea with my parents on our first trip to Southern California, and it was such a wonderful experience. Everything felt so relaxing and easy—from watching the sunsets by the pool to enjoying delicious meals together. Breakfast was a favorite, with the choice of sitting down at the restaurant for an à la carte menu or grabbing a quick coffee and sandwich from the café near the lobby. The location couldn’t be better—right on the beach and just a short walk into Encinitas for even more restaurants. My parents absolutely loved it. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

Beautiful hotel, beautiful location. The prices for the food, drinks, experiences, and actives is absolutely ridiculous. The $50/day resort fee doesn't cover most activities, the pool furniture costs to use, the parking is $60/day, valet only. Oh, and you have to request ice from the front desk. We used a third party booking service which charged us the resort fee, and then it was charged again at checkout and we were charged twice for daily parking one day. The hotel took the charges off when presented with a receipt for the resort fee and when I pointed out the double charge on the parking, but make sure to check. The beds are very soft. The view is amazing and the hotel is beautiful.

Ahead of our Anniversary stay in the $770 a night Ocean View Patio room I asked if they would provide "special" complimentary services...maybe chocolates and champagne, etc...said they would and the time of our stay based on the chefs choices that day they would provide something...this is something we have experienced at previous nice resorts...but they did not provide anything. Poor restaurant service. Most servers seemed "spacey". Would forget we ordered :) ...even asked how we liked our meal...before we even received it- ya, it was strange. One meal they brought out entrees before serving drinks...and then just forget the drink orders all together until we chased them down. They food was good- small portioned- but good- that's to be expected. My wife and I were once servers 35 years ago and our kids have been servers too. So we have tolerance for busy servers but for the most part they were not even busy. Then there is what I call "The AC Hotel" room interior. The air conditioning didn't work in our Ocean view patio room and staff never responded to fix it after 4-5 calls and interactions. Great location...but that's all. Have stayed in a handful of 4-5 Star Beach Resorts in Cape Cod, Mexico and Florida. This stay was disappointing. And yes they gave us a 50% refund for their errors and that helped...but would have happily paid full price for a great experience.

Our stay was very disappointing. The room felt uninviting, with a view of the parking lot. The restaurant was below average — cold coffee, slow service, and an uninspired setting. The pool and facilities look far better online than in person. Overall, the experience did not come close to what we expected for the price.
