DoubleTree by Hilton Kyoto Higashiyama

Very clean, comfortable, loads or extras - water( still and sparkling) from machines, cookies, toiletries etc. Good gym - not easy to find in Japan. Onsen is great for evening soak. Location is perfect, close to Gion and the main sights but on the quieter side of the quarter. Close to the river for walks or bike rides up and down the banks.

Room was very "compact". As usual in Japan, very well organised for a small space but with two people and a couple pf suitcases, getting ready in the morning was a bit like human Tetris. The breakfast room was also crammed with no real natural light. It's a shame because the rest of the lobby is really well designed and comfortable. This is probably being too picky and just comes down to practicalities...breakfast was good.. The omelet chef makes perfect eggs!
